Philadelphia Society of Botanical Artists The mission of the Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators is both educational and philanthropic: to educate ourselves and others about the history of Botanical Illustration;
to Since its start, PSBI has had the privilege each spring of having an exhibit of members’ work at the famed Philadelphia Flower Show. During the show PSBI members provide d

emonstrations of traditional and contemporary methods of illustration. These sessions are designed to inspire other artists and to educate the public about the science and the art of botanical illustration. In addition, PSBI holds occasional Member's Choice Exhibits
and hosts botanical illustration workshops. PSBI is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 educational organization.

Azalea Hill is officially in progress! 🌸✨

If you’ve been waiting for a bloom update...here it is! Buds are starting to open, and the recent heat has everything moving quickly. Keep in mind: our azaleas and rhododendrons bloom in waves throughout the season, so there’s beauty to catch from March straight into early summer.

We’re open daily from 9 AM – 7 PM, always free. Pro tip: swing by on a weekday or evening, and carpool if you can!

✏️ Join us on Thu, Apr 16 at 7 PM for our virtual lecture “Art or Science? The Co-Construction of Botanical Illustration” with Tracy Qiu.

Embark on a journey into the complex and fascinating stories surrounding botanical renderings and colonial plant collections. Tracy’s Ph.D. research explores the circumstances under which botanical illustrations were produced and asks the question, “How has the history of botanical illustration shaped the way we perceive plants, gardens, nature, and the environment today?”

Drawing on archival research at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Edinburgh, Tracy will share insights into how human-plant interactions crossed barriers of geography, race, class, and gender.
