Dear Philly Tree People Volunteers and Supporters,

Every August, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) asks for our help to check on the trees we’ve planted in the last year. We are looking for volunteers to go out either on their own or with a partner to check on an assigned handful of trees between now and August 25th. We will get you the tools and information you need and submit the data we collect as a group. We are looking for approximately 20 volunteers.

Here are two videos you can watch to learn about what it entails: Community Forestry: Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Tree Checkers Program & Tree Monitoring Standards in Action: Tree Checkers portion of the video.

If you want to help us by being a tree checker (assess the health and care of recently planted trees) this August please email Madeleine ([email protected])!

Thank you,

The Philly Tree People Board!

Many thanks to the 6 Hackett alumni teens who worked with board members Danny and Jacelyn last Friday to help 12 of our wonderful street trees!

We’re so grateful to and Jeanine Brookes for supporting the teens and this effort.

If you want to assist in the necessary maintenance of our street trees at schools and other public spaces with a group of friends, get in touch! We would be happy to partner and the trees would be happy to have your loving touch!

Today, current board member Maddi received a certificate for completing the advanced pruning club training. Former PTP board member Kara received a certificate for completing the basic tree tenders course. One of our next generation teen girl scout volunteers completed the basic training as well, helped to plant woody plants at the Philadelphia Zoo and did some tree care for recently planted trees and shrubs.
