We want to initiate a 'spotlight of the week', to celebrate our mentors and acknowledge the work they are doing. For this week we want to shine the spotlight on our mentor Toni-Shae! (pictured on the left) She has worked very diligently with us and has been proactive in developing her relationship with her mentee. This is exactly what we envisioned when we started H.O.M.I.E.S. Pairing black mentors with the black youth in our community!

At the beginning of this month, we had the privilege of going into The Julia Reynolds Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School to speak with their African American Cultural Committee (AACC). We had a great time connecting with their students and we were well received. The success of our encounter led us to pair 14 Masterman students with our H.O.M.I.E.S mentors.

One week ago, we launched HOMIES first ever event by celebrating the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by volunteering with Girard College here in Philadelphia. The focus of the volunteering project was to provide Covid testing centers and vaccines for the people of Philadelphia. We also had the opportunity to network with other Black businesses and non-profit organizations which made the experience even more memorable. We look forward to more partnerships that are focused on improving the lives of young black people in this city.

Hello everyone and welcome to our brand new page and project, H.O.M.I.E.S Inc. We are excited to share our experience and work with our black youth in the Philadelphia area!

Mission Statement :
H.O.M.I.E.S is a nonprofit organization developed for Black students by Black students in pursuit of creating proper representation within the K-12 education system. With a majority of inner-city nonprofits being forced to diversify in order to meet certain quotas, there are very few resources available specifically to Black students which are created to prepare and support them for the particular challenges they face. H.O.M.I.E.S serves as a mentorship group for these students in order to provide them with support, wisdom, tutoring etc. We recruit Black mentors who have completed (or are completing) their post-secondary education in order to mentor K-12 youth, based on shared experiences & like-minded thought processes.
