Sanctuary Farm Phila

Sanctuary Farm Phila Sanctuary Farms is focused on Digging Deep to Harvest Healthy Lives. We are focused on teaching community members about gardening wellness, and nutrition.

Sanctuary Farm seeks to address the health inequities resulting from systemic racial oppression and economic injustice by converting abandoned and neglected areas in our community into spaces that promote safety, hospitality, nutrition, and growth.

TEACHERS + FRIENDS of TEACHERS! We need your help in filling an unanticipated opening.

Sanctuary Farm Phila is seeking an experienced elementary school teacher to lead a Friday summer program for neighborhood children in Grades K-5. In its fourth year, the summer program, focusing on gardening, nature and nutrition, serves children attending the Honickman Learning Center summer school.

The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of classroom experience, an interest in gardening and nutrition, and creative ways to engage and inspire children. Experience in working with diverse communities is essential.

The summer program will run from Friday, July 10 through Friday, August 7, and the teacher will be on duty for about six hours each Friday: setting up; leading three hour-long, age-appropriate sessions; and cleaning up afterward. We will provide previous lesson plans as a reference. The first session begins at 11 am and the last session ends at 3:15 pm.

This is a paid position.

EDIBLE FLOWERS at today’s free produce farm stand were just the right touch. 💚🌼

These edible flowers can add a special touch to food. They bring vibrant color, unique texture, and subtle flavor to dishes. Add these flowers as a fresh garnish to salads, soups, and desserts, use them in infused liquids, or freeze them in your ice cubes. They look beautiful in a glass of water or lemonade.😎

We hope you enjoy, dear friends! 💚

BITTERSWEET, but we couldn’t be happier for our friend, trusted colleague, and awesome Program Manager, Nicolle Valencia, as she embarks on an exciting new chapter. Nicolle is leaving us to accept her dream role as a Community Engagement Teaching Artist with The Clay Studio, a renowned nonprofit arts organization in Kensington.

Founded in 1974, The Clay Studio is guided by the belief that shared creativity is fundamental to the human experience and a powerful force for good. The organization serves as a vibrant hub for ceramic arts, offering studio space, educational programming, and exhibitions that inspire artists and community members alike.

Sanctuary Farm Executive Director Andrea Vettori shared:

“Nicolle’s dedication and warmth will be deeply missed by our team. She joined us during a time of exciting growth at the farm, stepping into the newly created role of Program Manager. Through her thoughtful, compassionate, and committed approach, she helped us expand and diversify our programs to better serve our participants. While I am sad to see her go, I am thrilled for Nicolle. This is her passion, and she will be doing work that truly fills her soul.”

Nicolle, thank you for everything you have given to advance our work and mission. We are grateful for your contributions and excited to see the impact you will make in this next role. Wishing you every success and happiness in the journey ahead!
