On June 4, 2026, Antonio Delbosque and two outstanding River Oaks Elementary 5th-grade students, Juandiego GonzΓ‘lez and Thiago GΓ³mez, traveled to El Paso to compete in the Texas State Spanish Spelling Bee, representing their school, community, and Dual Language program with excellence.
The competition brought together 47 of the top Spanish spellers from across Texas, representing all 20 educational regions. During an intense spelling bee that lasted nearly 8 hours, both students demonstrated incredible focus, perseverance, and poise. We are especially proud to celebrate Juandiego's impressive 18th-place finish among the state's best competitors!
At PEF, we believe every student deserves access to opportunities that inspire growth and achievement. We were honored to support these students and their families by providing airfare and travel expenses so that parents could attend and cheer on their children during this unforgettable experience.
While the students did not advance to the National competition this year, they gained invaluable lessons in language, determination, and sportsmanship. Most importantly, they returned home motivated, inspired, and excited to compete again next year.
Congratulations to Juandiego, Thiago, their families, River Oaks Elementary, and the entire Dual Language program on this outstanding accomplishment. PEF is proud to support students as they pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom! ππ
