PfCONA (Pflugerville Council of Neighborhood Assoc)

PfCONA (Pflugerville Council of Neighborhood Assoc) Building Community Together A great place to live is not an accident. An April 25th Council Candidate Forum is being planned.

Weeds grow in a garden too so its up to citizens to work and talk together about what they want their town to be. For 25 years, PfCONA has been a forum for discussion about challenges our neighborhoods have like safety, traffic, environment, zoning, growth, peace, and cooperation. In 2010 PfCONA program topics included two candidate forums, HOA board basics and possible state legislation, disaster

readiness and crime prevention, cutting bills with home energy/water efficiency, the 2010 Census, and speakers from many nonprofits told us about their valuable programs. PfCONA 2011 programs will be held on the 2nd Monday of odd months (January, March, May, July, September, November) at 7 PM at the Pflugerville Justice Center, 1611 Pfennig Lane. You can ensure a strong PfCONA by paying your 2011 dues at any meeting or mailing dues to PfCONA, Box 679, Pflugerville, Texas 78691. General Member dues for HOA's, neighborhood resident groups, and individual Associate Members are $12 (January to December.)

WELLS BRANCH COMMUNITY CRACKED IN HALF BY PROPOSED REDISTRICTING!

The first proposed US Congressional District map has just been released - and it splits Wells Branch in half right down the middle of Katherine Fleischer Park! Precincts 215 and 225 would go to District 10 (Rep: Mike McCaul). The other half of Wells Branch (Precincts 216 and 229) would go to newly created District 37. District 10 has the same problems that 17 does for Wells Branch - it is largely rural, stretching nearly to Houston and has a long skinny arm that cracks away the top of Travis county from Austin. District 37 includes most of North suburban Austin. Being split across two Districts will make it twice as hard for Wells Branch to be heard by our federal representatives and in elections. Fair maps are compact, they keep communities together, and they don't have weird squiggly arms that cut suburban neighborhoods out of their cities! WE URGE ALL WB NEIGHBORS TO TAKE ACTION: contact the Senate and House Redistricting committees ASAP, and your State Rep ([email protected]) and Senator ([email protected]) and ask them to OPPOSE PlanC2101 and to draw a fair congressional map that keeps the Wells Branch community together in District 37 with similar suburban Austin communities.

Lots of fun on Friday and Sunday too.

The Deutschen Pfest Parade is this Saturday in Downtown Pflugerville. Whether you are coming to watch the parade or live in the area, make sure you know how the changes to the parade route affect you. The parade will start and end in front of Brookhollow Elementary and take a slightly different route through Downtown Pflugerville (see image below). You can now view the parade from Wilbarger St., and parade visibility may be limited from the east side of Railroad Ave., if the parade loops back across itself.

Read up on all parade route changes (including a route map) at deutschenpfest.com/parade.
