Thank you in advance for your participation in our ministry with the Salvation Army this 4th of July parades. I want to sing patriotic songs like we sung choral fro Christmas. I need to figure out how many microphones I need to bring. I only brought three at Christmas as we could have used a few more. What singers think the will make the harbor parade at 1 or the Petoskey parade at 6?

Great job with our journey through Mark! As we look at Romans chapters 1-5, I wanted to let you know some interesting things connected to this work.
The book of Romans has been hugely influential in history. It is the book that God used to convert Augustine. It was a study in Romans that lead a Catholic monk,Martin Luther to start the Protestant reformation. It is what inspired Calvin's Calvinism. Lutheran, Presbyterians, Baptist and many other denominations have exploded into existence after a group of believers began a serious study in Romans.

In many modern theological debates, verses from Roman's are often used by both sides to justify their position. As you read through keep an eye out for some of these popular verses. I encourage you to underline verses you have often heard. During your Christian walk, you will hear these verses used again and the ability to quickly find these verses help you examine the context of the verse to see if it is being used correctly.

During this read through, try not to chase too many of these theological debates. There will be plenty of time to do that later. Look to grasp the overall message and context of the letter.

EXTRA CREDIT
Using 5 verses from the book of Romans is a tool some use to share the Gospel with people. (I do like using this method)
ROMAN ROAD
Romans 3:23-->
Romans 6:23-->
Romans 5:8-->
Romans 10:9-->
Romans 8:1

After reading Romans, do you think these 5 verses successfully convey the broad teaching of Romans?

-Words or images that jump out at us
- parallel structures, comparison used or similar to other stories or scriptures
- Applications

- what I learned about God

Priorities. Could someone know what you declared were your priorities of they looked at your calendar, your checkbook, your web history or your conversations?

At different points in my life I have expressed my priorities or loyalties with such declarations as:
God, Corps and Country
Unit, Country, God and Corp
God, Family and Country.

These statements sound honorable and duty driven but have I ever really lived them?

I want to be defined by selfless duty but I fear that all too often my priorities could be defined just as a loyalty to self. Understanding what laudable duty would be has always been easy. PThe challenge has always been to live out the duty once it is understood.

Today, my duty is first to God and then all other relationships flow from there. Were I to declare in in a way similar to my earlier declarations of duty, it might go something like:
God, Church, Family, Corps (defined as military/Vet/First Responder Community), Community, Country.
There might always be an intellectual debate as to the correct ordering of the list. That is for another time.

What I am wondering today is if I live in such a way that others would guess that these were my priorities?

Small groups at Ember are made up of people just like you. Group members provide weekly support, study the Bible, and pray for one another.

Be Warned!!!

Many of you, my Facebook friends met me as I served as your chaplain pastor.

I confess that on occasion I browse your status updates (and sneak in a prayer to my Boss upstairs for your wellbeing). I thought you should know.

I am exploring the idea of a series of 5-10 minute web-videos addressing various topics or questions. Any suggestions for topics or questions that you would like to see addressed?
