Here is Mauro managing our syntropic system in the South of Haiti. Hats off to him and James who got out in the heavy winds and rain right after the hurricane skirted by the region.

Haiti always has surprises and challenges.

Here is an after video taken of the same area that I posted a video about previously. A future goat syntropic silvopasture system.

Here is an demo garden at the Beehive in Haiti. We are fortunate to be able to collaborate with them.

This area was planted during a cooperative celebration last year. I'm impressed with how well it's doing, considering the poor soil conditions.

The plan is for goats to graze this area when the trees are bigger.

Our most challenging syntropic garden is the desert garden. This location was intentionally chosen by Harvey to see if we could improve the soil conditions.

Things are still pretty degraded, but we have seen a change. Just to be about to grow some trees by see if an accomplishment.

My team in Haiti always keeps us busy when we are in country. Here are some pictures from a surprise visit to a demo farm.

They invited some community members from Hinche to do a tour. At the moment they came I had just arrived and was noticing so many small problems that needed attention. I was feeling discouraged.

But their visit lifted my mood because they noticed all the positive things. They couldn't believe we were growing sugar so well without irrigation. They had never seen someone grow so many fruit trees directly from seed. They were amazed at how productive the grasses were.

I have to remember that we are achieving so many things that are unusual for Haiti. This visit helped reframe my perspective and shape our program going forward. I'm grateful for that.

Thanks to Remond, Casiol and everyone at Haiti Beekeepers Society for doing great work at the demo farm. Here they integrated goats into the system by using a cut and carry forage approach.

Some observations from our demo farm in Haiti.

Remond standing next to the pond created on the Haiti Beekeeper society farm. The first attempt failed because heavy rains broke the dam.

Harvey came back and installed a drain pipe. It worked. It survived the heavy rains. I'm not sure if it will ever hold water all year round. Let's see.

This is Daniel's garden. He is one of our new instructors who is learning faster than I've ever seen before.

This is a system on his families land. Despite being fully fenced, cows entered and destroyed the work Harvey and he did months before.

He gathered to repair that and plant another line. Afterwords he fixed every opening so that no more animals can enter.

In his words: not even a mosquito can come in! I'm excited to see the results.

Here are some pictures from our last trip to Haiti. Thanks to Harvey who got us connected with a Belgium organization who is doing amazing agricultural work.

I'm impressed with the resources they have and by their director, Angelika, who has a huge heart. Her team is embracing syntropics and in less than a year already has some impressive results!
