Petersburg Freedom Support Center Veterans and Active Military Resource Center It will be named the Petersburg Freedom Support Center.

The City of Petersburg and the FLITE Foundation has teamed up to open a dynamic ONESTOP Resource Center for Military personnel, Veterans and their families. This initiative comes out of the Office of Councilman W Howard Myers and approved by his colleagues on City Council. It is the second of its kind in Virginia, with the first Freedom Support Center located in Fort Monroe, VA. This center is a h

ighly collaborative, public-private sponsored service hub for active, reserve and National Guard service members, their families and our veterans. The ONESTOP will house a host of service organizations that will provide the best resources throughout the Crater Planning District and Richmond.

Bring your pup and join Virginia War Memorial’s Director, Clay Mountcastle, JoJo and Junie for the Inaugural “K9 Veterans Day Memorial Dog Walk” presented by Woodfin – Your Home Team on Saturday March 11, 2023, 9:30 am to 11:00 am!

This .9K for K9s is in recognition of National K9 Veterans Day which is recognized on March 13. This is a day set aside to honor and remember the service and sacrifice of military, law enforcement, and service dogs on the battlefield or in our communities.

Those wishing to participate in the walk must register between 9:30 and 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023. There is no cost to participate. All dogs must be on a leash and have an ID tag on their collar or microchip with the dog’s name and owner’s information. All dogs must be accompanied by an adult and all persons under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must also complete a participation waiver before the event or upon arrival at the Virginia War Memorial.

There will be stops along the .9K to remember military service dogs throughout American history as well as dog caricature portraits, dog cake decorating and other events.

Virginia War Memorial Opening Major New Exhibit Honoring Virginia‘s Vietnam War Veterans!!

“50 Years Beyond: The Vietnam Veteran Experience” profiles the lives and stories of 50 Vietnam War Veterans from throughout the Commonwealth and will be unveiled on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

The exhibit opens this month to coincide with and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Paris Peace Accords which ended the Vietnam War in January 1973.
