Many Hands 4 Light Work begins June 20th. 🌱

This is more than volunteering — it’s a movement rooted in stewardship, skill-sharing, and collective growth.

Each Saturday brings a different opportunity to plug into the work:

🌿 1st & 3rd Saturdays
Hands-on farm projects at Oasis Youth Farm
Planting, harvesting, composting, building, animal care, beautification, and growing food for the community.

📚 2nd Saturdays
Educational experiences + skills workshops
Learn practical skills connected to farming, wellness, sustainability, food systems, land stewardship, homesteading, entrepreneurship, and community resilience.

🚜 4th Saturdays
Farm Visits Across Virginia
We travel to local farms to support, learn from, and build relationships with farmers across the Commonwealth.
Because every farm has wisdom to share and could use some hands to help.

This is volunteerism rooted in purpose.
Learning rooted in experience.
Community rooted in action.

No experience needed. Just a willing heart and a ready spirit. ✊🏾🌎

🌱 From Richmond to The Oasis — what a day!

Huge thanks to Dr. Hollee Freeman for bringing 50 bright young minds from Fairfield Court Elementary all the way to the Petersburg Oasis Youth Farm! 🚌✨

These second-grade growers got hands-on with:
🐝 Pollinators in the hive
🐓 Chicken anatomy in the coop
🫐 Fresh berries straight from the bush
🌱 Planting their own crops in the soil
🌿 Harvesting herbs from Kulu Kev’s Medicine Maze
🍳 Lunch in Papa Kelly’s Kitchen

This is what learning looks like when hands hit the soil, joy meets curiosity, and a whole village shows up. 🌍💚

Melanin Magic School reminded us that learning does not have to be confined to four walls.

It can happen with hands in the soil.
It can happen during a deep breath.
It can happen around a shared meal.
It can happen through art, movement, reading, reflection, and community.

During our Spring Break Experience, our Little Lights stepped into a different kind of classroom — one where the land teaches, culture guides, creativity opens the mind, and wellness helps the spirit settle.

They planted seeds.
They practiced mindfulness.
They created with purpose.
They explored the Petersburg Oasis Youth Farm.
They learned from village educators.
They laughed, listened, moved, reflected, and grew.

This is what happens when education is rooted in love, land, and liberation.

Melanin Magic School was not just about keeping children busy during spring break. It was about showing them that they belong to something bigger — a village, a legacy, and a future they have the power to help shape.

And as we prepare for Oasis Nature School in Summer 2026, we carry this lesson forward:

When we pour into our children, we are not just preparing them for the world.
We are preparing them to transform it. 🌱✨

Day 1 is OFFICIALLY underway. 🌱👑🥪
Meals by the Godzz has started — and today was more than breakfast… it was community economics in motion.

Local community leaders + entrepreneurs pulled up to support the Young Pharaohs by making an impact investment and receiving a plant-based breakfast sandwich in return. That’s what it looks like when we feed the people and build the builders.

This is also Mystery School in real time. The Young Pharaohs attend Mystery School for a full year, and social entrepreneurship is part of the curriculum — learning how to turn skills, vision, and discipline into something the community can feel.

Because here’s the formula: when passion meets the needs of the people, therein lies your profession. ✅

Join us for the kickoff of Branching Out: Cultivating Urban Canopies with “Trees: The Good, The Bad, The In-Between” — a practical, community-centered workshop designed to educate + empower Petersburg with the knowledge and skills of tree stewardship while we Green Petersburg together.
