TURNING TRAGEDY INTO TRIUMPH DURING COVID-19

Just months away from her retirement, Fran Sumblin received devastating news. She had worked graveyard shifts for over thirty three years at a company called Porex Filtration Group. While working overnights she managed to raise two children as a single parent and is known for always putting others before herself. During the height of the pandemic (no visitors!) in March 2020, doctors discovered that she had a cancerous brain tumor. She was immediately transported from Chippenham Hospital to Johnston Willis for brain surgery (craniotomy). Radiation & chemotherapy were scheduled within days following this intensive surgery. The 6-week treatment required her daughter, Dana Coppola to take time off work to drive Fran to daily treatment. Dana also nominated her mom so that Kid Care Limo could provide a special ride to her last radiation appointment along with her family. What a relief to finally be able to put this scary time behind her!!! Fran was surprised to get a VIP ride and overjoyed to be surrounded by her doctors, friends and family as she celebrated her last successful treatment! She wanted to send out a special thank you to the Johnston Willis staff for providing excellent treatment and care. Many heartfelt thanks also go to her Radiation Oncologist Dr. David Randolph II and Medical Oncologist Dr. Attique Samdani at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center. Kid Care Limo would like to thank our outstanding Mission Accomplishment team, Shannon and Melly for making this ride happen. We are most grateful to Dana and all those who have nominated riders in need, and we invite you to contact us to arrange a free personalized experience for those needing a ride to treatment.

A 2-for-1 Special Ride to Treatment for Meranda, Michael and Minty!!!

After trying for two years, Meranda Dennis and Michael George were finally blessed with their baby girl, Arminta Virginia George, who goes by “Minty.” Several doctor’s told her parents that “if” she made it full term, she would have special needs and most likely only be here with us for a few days. They moved forward with the pregnancy despite several medical personnel and doctors trying to convince them to terminate their child. Miraculously, Minty is still here two years later! Although she suffers from several medical challenges, Minty has enjoyed many healthy developments, which Meranda and Michael both attribute to her faith in God and in Jesus.

In May 2019, just as they were growing accustomed to tending to their daughter’s complicated medical needs, Meranda was diagnosed with a rare form of stage three breast cancer. Both parents kept working full time and continue to fight the good fight! Today was a special day for Meranda, she just finished her last treatment at Saint Francis Hospital in Midlothian, VA and both Minty and Meranda were able to ring her bell of freedom!!! Now we hope, pray and wait for further miracles to unfold in their lives.

When the Kid Care Limo pulled up in her driveway, tears started to well up; joy and gratitude flooded her heart as she realized that this VIP ride was here especially for her, for her big day!!! Meranda excitedly began to get together her daughter’s specialized equipment, which fit perfectly in the limo. To her surprise she found beautiful fresh cut flowers and two large bags of meaningful gifts for both Minty and herself. Meranda’s eyes especially lit up when she saw her favorite skull necklace and a huge bag of butterfingers! While Minty enjoyed her new soft mermaid blanket and organic puffy sweet potato treats.

Even though this family has faced some of their toughest years, they still are full of positive energy, hope and joy and give thanks to God for all that they have! What great examples they are of their faith and of being model hardworking U.S. citizens.

Today Kid Care Limo was able to surprise Dai’Niyah (11years old) with a ride to Saint Mary’s Hospital. We anticipate a full recovery to 100% health, but in the mean time we hope to have provided a positive memorable experience on her road to recovery.

Dai’Niyah’s favorite color is red, she loves puppy’s, YouTube, video games and has a wonderful sense of humor. She even has her own YouTube channel called, “Too funny Niyah”. Her warm loving supportive family has been there every step of the way!

Thank you for being our special rock star 💫 kid today, Niyah!

****If you would like to nominate or donate please be sure to review our “about us” prior to submission. Thank you 🙏 for your support with our mission.

Kid Care Limo – this is a non-profit offering free transportation to Children’s Hospitals and other treatment locations for patients and families. Moms and dads taking children to the hospital or other locations for treatment already have enough on their mind – they shouldn’t have to worry about directions, driving, parking, or traffic. Our donors provide stretch limo style VIP transportation in an Executive SUV including:

-A personalized gift basket for the patient
-Guests’ beverages of choice on ice
-DVD or iPad entertainment on video monitors
-Fresh cut flowers
-Customized music and light color schemes

KidCareLimo provides a special ride that little patients and their families will never forget. It’s not hard at all to make a kid’s trip happen…

How it works: Easy!!! Just book a date on our page with the time of departure. Our staff will call to confirm and get information about the passengers. We can accommodate up to eight passengers, and we operate just south of the Richmond metro area in the Tri-Cities of Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights and surrounding counties. Supporters can help us by spreading the word, referring a little patient, or donating at any level up to and including full sponsorship of our vehicles.

Why? Virginia criminal traffic defense attorney Charles V. “Van” Hardenbergh and his wife Mari DeLaCruz Hardenbergh started this project after purchasing an executive SUV to hold business meetings by their legal data marketing service, CAMS. While it proved useful, it sat idle most of the time. In trying to decide who could benefit the most from the vehicle, Van and Mari decided that children suffering from serious medical challenges would get the most out of the “VIP Limo” experience.

Not all of the patients in a childrens’ hospital will recover their health, but each one deserves an epic “Rock Star Experience”, and this is one they will remember for the rest of their lives. It gives them a break from the worry of medical treatment and the prognosis of their illnesses, injuries, and diseases. The parents also get some well-deserved quality time. As passengers, they can select the entertainment options, enjoy a cool beverage, and kick back while our driver takes care of transportation.

Celebration of Life for
Katherine “Kate” Grace Spede
(19 July 2016-28 September 2019)

Kid Care Limo had the honor of transporting little Kate Spede’s family this past weekend. With permission from her family we have included a few pictures to celebrate and remember her life. She was an outgoing bright eyed beauty who loved Minnie Mouse, the color pink, and swimming. She was affectionally known to friends and family as “CupKate”.

She is survived by her loving parents Tiffany and Mike Spede; her big sister Emma Spede; her grandparents James and Margaret Spede and Tom and Jennifer O’Neil; her great grandmother Helen Cross; and many other loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you know of a family that is taking a child to treatment or dealing with similar challenges, we are here to make a difference by giving them a VIP ride. There is no cost to our guests, and we provide some special touches to make sure they know how important they are to those who have nominated them. Please keep us in mind if you know of a good candidate for a special ride, and together we can make a difference by helping others overcome their challenges...

Special thanks to Shanna West for arranging this ride and assisting with the preparation and transport.
