GRANNY CYPRESS
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Granny Cypress at Hellman Hollow took a knee. Estimated to be 150 years old, she was there at the park's inception, when it was created in 1870 on 1,013 acres of windswept sand dunes in an unincorporated area of the Peninsula known as the Outside Lands. Today the acreage stands at 1,017 acres.
Thanks to Warren Hellman, Granny Cypress had the pleasure of listening to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and the incredible bands that played here during her last 25 years of life. Very dear to me is the fact that Granny Cypress enjoyed the embodiment of Peace on Earth through Music.

Hardly Strictly asked us to build a tribute to Granny Cypress and the event itself. Sebastian St Sebastian Saint James accompanied me and shot the first meeting at the park. I came up with this tribute to Bluegrass Music, and we turned the shop into the Hardly Strictly Stringed instrument woodshop. Reggie and Carlos really stepped up to the plate and went all out. Grez Guitars jumped in and provided us with strings and Pickguard material, and Sebastian Saint James drove me and our incredible creation to its destination yesterday. This is our tribute being placed atop the remaining stump beside the Banjo Stage. The crew at HSB were great to work with.

These tanks had w**e in them for many years - beautiful clear redwood with w**e stains! All the tanks had tapers. We have sample boards at the yard. The larger ones are 2 5/8" x tapered from 7 3/4" to 6 3/4 " over 19'3". There are w**e crystals on the inside. We will have more units available next week or if you want to order a lot we can ship it to you. $12/bd ft in smaller amounts.

In 1972 I went to see Joe Cocker at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver - the tickets were $4.50 (Canadian). There was a band opening for them that were not on the Bill. They were introduced as Eagle before they added the S. It was their first major tour date. You can't go see Joe anymore but how about this date. The Space Orchestra playing their incredible reprise of Joe Cockers Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and it is free! Family Friendly fun this Friday August the 7th from 5:30 until 8 at the Rohnert Park Community Center. You can't beat that baby! I will be honored to be there and tell the story of the Incredible tour that Leon Russell engineered for Joe.
