North Bay Leadership Council

North Bay Leadership Council North Bay Leadership Council is an employer-led public policy advocacy organization providing leadership in ways to make the North Bay sustainable.

North Bay Leadership Council is an employer-led public policy advocacy organization committed to providing leadership in ways to make the North Bay sustainable, prosperous and innovative. As business and civic leaders, our goal is to ensure economic health by promoting better education, infrastructure, and governance to make our region a better place to live and work. In our third decade, NBLC has

identified improving public education as our top priority in recognition that better early childhood education, closing the achievement gap for Latino students, increased readiness for college and careers, and greater numbers of students pursing math and science majors, are fundamental to gaining a competitive edge as a regional economy that is also facing serious challenges to our ability to retain and attract new jobs.

Michelle Whitman was appointed by The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors as the Executive Director of the Community Development Commission in April 2023. Since then, Michelle has proven to be an innovative and collaborative executive director specializing in equity centered housing production and interjurisdictional, cross-discipline, multisector community development. We're excited to announce that 10,000 Degrees is now an official member of the North Bay Leadership Council!

Since 1981, 10,000 Degrees has grown from a small scholarship program serving Marin students into California’s leading equity-focused college success nonprofit. Driven to achieve educational equity, they provide scholarships, near-peer mentoring, and comprehensive support to help students from low-income backgrounds succeed in college and beyond. Their impact is clear: 10,000 Degrees supports over 16,000 students and alumni annually, and last year, awarded $9.6 million in scholarships, and helped a remarkable 90% of students graduate debt-free.

“We are delighted to welcome 10,000 Degrees to NBLC,” said Karleen Arnink-Pate, NBLC Board Chair and Chief Revenue Officer, Press Democrat News Group. “Education is a cornerstone issue for NBLC and its members. We cannot achieve a highly skilled workforce without creating these incredible educational opportunities that 10,000 Degrees provides.”

“We have worked alongside NBLC for years to help educate and uplift our community,” noted Kim Mazzuca, President and CEO of 10,000 Degrees. “It is an honor to be an official member so we can do even more together to strengthen the North Bay.”

Join us in celebrating this partnership and its potential to create greater opportunity across our regions!
