The Farallon Institute for Advanced Ecosystem Research is a nonprofit scientific organization dedicated to the understanding and preservation of healthy marine ecosystems. We have the goal of providing research to support ecosystem-based management practices and policy reforms that will help to sustain a healthy marine environment. We acknowledge that all aspects of the marine environment are inte

rdependent, so our studies focus on how climate change, ocean currents, changing weather patterns, common fishing practices, and other changes on coastlines affect a wide variety of marine food webs and ecosystem processes. The Farallon Institute is chiefly concerned with:
• The biological consequences of climate change
• Coastal and oceanic marine protected areas
• Sustainable approaches to fisheries
• Analyses of food-web changes
• Population biology and strength of keystone species, such as krill and forage fish
• Comprehensive examinations of ecosystem health
