What a great growing force.

What a great growing force.

Congratulations to Officer Reed Monsen on being selected as the newest member of our traffic team!

🚓Officer Monsen will be focusing on DUI enforcement, which makes sense because for the past two years, he’s been honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for making more than 25 DUI arrests a year...so if you’re thinking about driving while impaired this Cinco de Mayo, you’re gonna want to think again.

Congrats, Reed!

518 Galland St is A 1928 Craftsman era home with subtle Victorian influences, reflecting the architectural character of Petaluma's historic west side. Built by Dr. Galland, this home sits in what is now the Oak Hill-Brewster Historic District and represents a rare piece of Petaluma's early history. Shortly after constructing 518 Galland Street, Dr. Galland purchased the neighboring property at 520 Galland Street, where he established his maternity and birthing hospital. An important contribution to the city that ultimately led the city to name the street in his honor. 518 Galland remains a remarkable example of a bygone era, when doctors' offices and small private hospitals were woven into the fabric of the community. The home still retains its original floor plan, and its generous quarter‑acre almost level lot is an increasingly rare find on the west side of Petaluma.

I remember my days in FFA—what a great organization. Believe it or not, one of the most valuable skills I learned there was journal bookkeeping and budgeting, along with so many others. If you have a chapter in your area, support it. You’ll be glad you did.

Well Sunrise Rotary was out ringing the bell this season for the Salvation Army. The Petaluma club and Sunrise where having a competition.
The Petaluma club won.
12/13/25 Sunrise Rotary = $468.04
12/12/25 Petaluma Rotary = $622.11
But the real winners are those in need in our community. Remember every dollar that goes in a kettle in Petaluma stays in Petaluma to help folks in our community.

For about the last ten years, I’ve had the privilege of chairing Non-Profit Day for the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. It’s one of the highlights of my year because it lets me share something I’m truly passionate about: supporting the people and organizations who serve our community.

Non-Profit Day gives business and community leaders the chance to connect with a wide range of organizations working on the front lines of food insecurity, senior services, youth programs, family support, homelessness, and environmental stewardship—you name it, Petaluma has a group dedicated to making a difference. That’s one of the many reasons I love this town.

This year’s program took us to the Petaluma Hamilton Masonic Hall, where we heard from nonprofits and learned about upcoming community projects. From there, we toured the Petaluma Wildlife Museum to see how nonprofit partnerships support our school system. We then visited COTS (Committee on the Shelterless) to learn about their housing-focused services and enjoy lunch together. We wrapped up the day at Art is Life, where the class connected with service organizations including Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lions.

I was especially honored this year to be joined by Elece Hempel, retired CEO of Petaluma People Services Center, who brought more than twenty years of nonprofit expertise to enrich the day.

If you haven’t participated in the Leadership Program and you live here in Petaluma, I highly recommend it. Even lifelong locals come away from the eight-week course with a deeper understanding of—and appreciation for—the place we call home.

Here are a few shots from the day.
