Older Californians are becoming homeless at an alarming rate, and we're seeing this reality right here in Petaluma. Recent reporting highlights that older adults are now the fastest-growing age group experiencing homelessness in California, with many losing housing for the first time after age 50 due to rising costs, health challenges, and fixed incomes.

This is exactly why Rebuilding Together Petaluma's Critical Home Repair program is so vital.

For many seniors and low-income homeowners, a broken ramp, unsafe stairs, failing bathroom, roof leak, or other critical repair can be the difference between staying safely housed and facing displacement. By making homes safer, healthier, and more accessible, we help older adults age in place, maintain their independence, and avoid the devastating consequences of housing instability.

Home repairs are more than construction projects. They are homelessness prevention.

Every grab bar installed, ramp built, and critical repair completed helps a neighbor remain safely in the home they love.

Older adults are becoming homeless at an alarming rate and we are seeing this reality firsthand right here in Petaluma.

Many of the participants in our RTP Works Workforce Development Program are seniors who have experienced housing instability, rising costs of living, health challenges, and barriers to employment. These are our neighbors who have worked hard their entire lives and now find themselves struggling to stay housed.

At Rebuilding Together Petaluma, we're committed to creating solutions. In addition to helping seniors gain income, stability, and purpose through RTP Works, we are taking the next step by building two ADA-accessible ADUs on our 316 Vallejo Street property specifically to provide housing for unhoused seniors.

Safe housing changes lives. Together, we can ensure that older adults in our community have the dignity, stability, and support they deserve.
