The Hate Fence has been erected at Steamer Landing, forcing our neighbors onto a dangerously narrow bit of land next to the water. Some great local lawyers are helping on the legal side of things. We'll be helping with basic life necessities at the camp, which is due for a hearing on Dec 17. Folks need warm clothing, help with laundry, and as always tents, tarps, and sleeping bags. See you out here, neighbors. We keep us safe.

Petaluma! This very night, the encampment at Steamer Landing could use tarps. 12x20' is the most useful size but anything close to that will work. Please feel free to drop off with anyone at the encampment who agrees to distribute them. Please provide trash bags for any waste generated by the tarp packaging. Thanks so much ☺️ Our crew will be out doing our part. Hope to see ya!

Important event happening this weekend on occupied Coast Miwok land just to our south. Displacement and land injustice go back hundreds of years on this continent (and even further on other continents). It's time we see all these struggles as one. The Marin DA needs to drop the charges. Follow for all the details.

Petaluma, great news! An especially beautiful day at steamer landing as we just heard a judge granted a restraining order against the city of Petaluma's cruel and illegal treatment of our neighbors until at least Oct 13. No eviction this week!!!

Petaluma! Protest today, Tues Oct 5 at noon near Steamer Landing. Help us demand Free Public Camping

If you drive by Lakeville and D St without honking, we'll assume you're a landlord* 🤷‍♂️
-
Please be considerate to steamer residents by walking, biking, or e-scooting to the protest today. Leave the car at home or several blocks away.
-
* Kind landlords who believe human rights are more important than profit are extremely rare, but if you exist we'd like to meet you.

See you today, Petaluma!

Look, life is not a beauty contest. And it's sure as heck not a politeness contest. These are life and death issues. Hoping to see your supportive eyes today at noon, with or without a beautiful sign.

Pictured: a lovingly made but less than photogenic cardboard sign reads "Stop All Sweeps * Protest Mon Oct 4 * Steamer Landing * Noon * Stay Safe * Bring a Sign (or not)"

Petaluma, our neighbors at Steamer Landing have been threatened with eviction this week. In typical fashion, we were told for weeks it would be Oct 6, but when paperwork was issued it was for a day earlier, this Tuesday Oct 5. We'll be ready to support our neighbors on both days.
-
In response, we're asking the compassionate people of Petaluma to support residents' protest tomorrow, Monday Oct 4 at noon near the park. Please also voice your concern to city council. The city cut off water in the heat of summer and continue to persecute and discriminate against our poorest residents. Now they're threatening to evict with no alternative housing for our disabled neighbors.
-
On eviction day(s), legal observers (ie anyone with a phone) and general help/support are welcome. Feel free to dm or comment if you would like to get involved in specific ways. Thanks neighbors!

Petaluma neighbors, the countdown has begun. We have 72 hours to respond to this cruelty. More to come; stay tuned.

Petaluma, let's talk about water. You might think, after seeing a headline like "Petaluma Turns Water Back On Near Homeless Encampment" from our esteemed local press , there's reason to celebrate one small victory. But you'd be wrong. What the articles fail to mention is the water was immediately turned back off due to an easily reparable leak. Meanwhile, our mayor and her unsinkable spouse not only hoard land and housing, they saturate their lawn with the precious water they deny others. More to say on our local politicians, but for now please know they lied and our neighbors are still in desperate need.

If you'd like to make a donation to the folks at Steamer Landing, you are always welcome to drive there and pass out items, or leave them on the benches, in the field away from other tents but visible, etc.

Please be conscientious of the items you are bringing. For example, a case of water is always welcome and can be left in the open for people to avail themselves of, as are non-perishable canned goods and snacks. Other items like Mac and Cheese, rice, and dry noodles might be a good fit, but it is a good idea to check with people individually at the camp to make sure they can afford the time and materials to boil water. Use discretion when deciding what you can leave around and what you should give directly to people.

Lastly, please be mindful of your donations, as sometimes they are not useful and end up cluttering the space with garbage, which reflects poorly on the residents there. This specifically applies to items like clothing and the aforementioned conditional food items. If you drop off clothes, it is wise to check back in a day or two and see if some items are still left there, as these can probably be collected back and re-used later, not just left there as clutter.

Thank you so much for your big hearts!
