Hey everyone! Been a slow progress kind of spring but we have a major step forward coming soon. Zoning and building code hold ups popped up and we have a finalized plan to knock out then we can start taking apps!

The slow part is always taped in red when it comes to getting something like this started in an antique building but it will be worth it to preserve the architecture!

The building capacity is 150 people, and it is a Zone E.
Currently we are getting a 3rd bathroom to satisfy the requirements, a free spring water bottle filling station, and the slow part: an architect firm has to create a blueprint of the building, go over fire code options, and submit them to the State to approve our fire alarm design that was given to us by the companies we intend to hire for the install.

I am excited to finally be on the last stretch of tasks to start operations!

Hey everyone! It’s been a slow couple weeks here and I just wanted to give another update.
We are currently working with the city and state to ensure finalization regarding meeting building code and zoning. So close, but as many know…red tape can take a while to peel. Being a school setting in a beautiful old building takes an extra bit of administrative elbow grease but we can’t wait until it’s ready to go!

Once we get the final approval from the authorities we can get our fire alarm and permits to start the engines!

Again, thank you all for the local support and patience as we make sure to do things right! Safety is a priority!

2 steps closer to building code compliance! Had a lot of fun with these projects! I think we will update the flooring in the black and white bathroom sometime but for now it’s functional! Aside from a few more patches to nail down in the main room where old conduit used to run we are just awaiting the fire alarm people then it’s showtime! 💪❤️

Funny story, but a good lesson to anyone who finds a goal to be seemingly out of reach. We had trouble locating a ladder tall enough to reach the 16ft ceiling to cover this electrical box and so I zip tied a screwdriver to a broom stick and taped magnets to a paint stick, climbed up the ladder I had and with a little precision it worked! Being resourceful is a major lesson we want to teach the kiddos, but also how to find alternative paths to the same goal which is the whole concept of the school! And never give up no matter how high a screw needs to go!

Now to straighten my neck back out! Soon we will have pics of the bathroom too! The plumbers witnessed my circus act when they were working and are just finishing up a drain adjustment for the ADA compliant sink. I have a feeling the fire alarm install will be a relatively quick job too when they get their designs finalized.

For the rest of the day I have a little carpentry to hide the plumbing and installing grab bars for the toilet! Now where is that pesky stud finder? 🥴

I’d like to give a huge pile of gratitude to the guys working through the coldest hours of the day to clear off the snow on Broadway. It means a lot to roll up to a clear parking space at 8am! I am very impressed and grateful! That was SO MUCH SNOW! Hopefully you are staying warm in that little green machine! It looks like fun!

Another update:

We have a fire alarm company drawing up plans to install our system!

3/4 doors now have panic bars for easy exit in an emergency (one door needs to be flipped around for 100% compliance still)

Our original bathroom will be ADA compliant by the end of the week!

Our second bathroom, which luckily was mostly plumbed but empty, is getting the water lines hooked up in the morning!

We are still looking for a ladder tall enough to reach the ceiling to install a cover over a random open electrical box

Finally, we have some random holes in the floor from old electrical and/or plumbing to cover up

Should be a good and productive end of the month then we can get our inspection and finally be approved to open!

Looking forward to making that announcement everyone has been waiting for and some new things to announce when the time is right

Hey everyone! We had our first inspection today and it went mostly well, though due to the square footage of the building we have some loose ends to tie up!

The bathroom has to be ADA compliant, so we will be adding grab bars and replacing the sink to accommodate wheel chairs.

We are waiting on the verification regarding needing a second bathroom as well.

Finally we have to install a fire alarm system that notifies the fire department in emergencies and install panic k***s on the doors so they lock from outside but can be exited quickly.

Not too much, but still a delay due to coordinating with the fire alarm installers and possibly waiting for shipping of new door k***s.

Otherwise everything is looking good as long as we get that taken care of! We won’t have any issues with capacity for special events and will be able to accommodate wheelchair access!

All this is necessary, and looking forward to finally getting the balls rolling!

Side note, we were considering having family friendly video game nights on the giant projector! We gave it a test with some donkey Kong since the internet isn’t hooked up and wow lol!

200” projector screen test went very well! We were…ummm…studying monkeys! Yeah! That’s what we did! Little known fact, apparently some species use surf boards and some can use their head fur as a helicopter to jump long gaps. 😅😅😅

I think watching Science Live is going to be a lot of fun on the big screen and yes, we will be doing game night as long as it’s family friendly games!

Some other things we will be using this for is documentaries, presentations, and shadow puppets 😝

Much like the truth of our existence, this bean bag is packed tight and takes patience to be expanded. There are so many questions that we want answered, whether it’s how the moon stares at us all day or why cilantro tastes like soap to some people, and that’s the fun in learning. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. We are meant to learn everything that has answers! Could you imagine how boring life would be if we were born knowing everything?

Got our open jam setup put together! Can’t wait to hear what kind of talents come through! And yes, of course the kiddo...

Can’t have math without real life applications! Every kid deserves to beat on a drum set every once in a while! The bass drum and guitar amps are coming later because I had 3 more tables and a boat load of glass buoys in this load 😝
