Grissom Air Museum

[GO INDIANA GO!] This week Senior Airman Eniola Oke of 434th Air Refueling Wing has been representing the state of Indiana at the Miss USA. As a historic military aviation museum, we wanted to give a special shout out to SrA Oke for her state costume choice.

The Indy 500 is the most common choice for an Indiana state costume theme, but she opted to represent her love of aviation! The cutout of the P-47 Thunderbolt has several meanings - it is Indiana's official state aircraft (as of 2015), it was flown by the US Army Air Force during World War 2, and one of the plants to produce the plane was built in Evansville. Whether it's her favorite plane, we're not sure, but we know for many of you it is!

We'll learn to night if SrA Oke makes it to the Top 10 and we wish her all the best, but we want to thank her for reminding everyone that Indiana isn't just corn and rubber, it also takes to the skies! Drop a good luck in the comments!

[FRIENDLY REMINDER!] The Top 3 invites you to join Grissom Air Reserve Base and event host the Grissom Air Museum on Friday August 28 for a block party! This free public event will start at 5:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m.

Enjoy music, delicious food from our food vendors, take on our bouncy obstacle course, and visit the museum before welcoming the Thunderbirds to Peru! The event is free to the public, with vendors accepting cash and/or card for purchases.

Parking will be free with primary in our west field (yellow star), handicap in our main lot, and overflow across Hoosier Blvd (red star). There will be no shuttle service and guests are expected to use caution when walk along Hoosier Blvd.

The GAM invites you to not only join us for this great event, but to be part of our special ribbon cutting for the Cervantes Building at 5:15 p.m. A special announcement about phases 3 & 4 will be unveiled as well!

[SHOP TIL YOU DROP!] If you're looking for a way to support the GAM this weekend, consider shopping the museum's two locations.

Our gift shop will be open and our regular merchandise for sale, but we will also be selling limited merchandise in a tent at Kitty Hawk and Liberator Streets. We will be selling newly designed GAM shirts inspired by both Grissom ARB and the Thunderbirds (P2) as well as sunscreen, sunglasses, and earplugs.

Shirts are available at both locations and any remaining stock will be sold after Air Show weekend. They are $20.00 (sales tax included) each and range from Small to 4XL. Ear plugs are only $1.00 while sunscreen will be $2.00 and sunglasses will be $5.00. Cash and card accepted at both locations.

[WHERE TO FIND US!] Coming to the Air Show this weekend? Come see us!

1) The museum will be open our regular hours (10:00a to 4:00 p) each day. Parking is $20.00 per vehicle and you will receive a coupon for discounted admission. Because we are at the end of the runway, planes will be banking overhead during the show. If you'd like to stay and "tailgate" with us, you are welcomed to bring blankets, chairs, and a small cooler. Pets are still welcomed but must remain leashed at all times and waste handled immediately.

2) We are offering paid parking spots for the general public at the museum during the show and we are only .5 miles from the entry gate. Parking is $20.00 and will be in our west field for general and the main lot for handicap needs.

3) The GAM will be hosting a booth at Kitty Hawk and Liberator (in the middle of the main GARB designated parking), where we will be selling shirts, earplugs, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a few T-bird related items. Cash and card accepted.

4) Join the GAM on-base inside the STEM hangar as history, art, and science unite to showcase the history of Grissom ARB and beyond!

[DISCOVERY A NEW STORY TODAY!] Looking for something new to discover? The Grissom Air Museum can help you out with our seven (!) exhibits currently on display. From a rare Spandau machine gun used in World War I (Freedom's Fire Power) to a collective 82 years of military service (Faces of Grissom), there is plenty to discover this summer at the GAM!

[SPOT ON!] The GAM will be hosting automotive parking at the museum during the air show. The cost is only $20.00 and there will be no shuttle to the base. All guests who park with us will receive free coupons for discounted admission

Parking will open at 8:30 a.m., with general parking in our west field and handicap parking in our regular lot. Cash is preferred, but credit card will be accepted. No vehicles larger than a 15 passenger van will be allowed in either of our lots.

As a reminder, parking questions specific to the base (handicap accessibility, parking passes, etc.) must go to the Grissom ARB as they are the host. You can call 765-688-3348 for more information.
