Help First Responders Find You!

Did you know there’s a simple app that can help first responders locate you faster in an emergency?

📱 What3Words divides the entire world into 3-meter squares and gives each location its own unique combination of three words. This can be especially helpful at Starved Rock State Park, where trails, canyons, overlooks, and wooded areas can make it difficult to describe exactly where you are.

If you’re hiking, exploring, or enjoying our state park, consider downloading the What3Words app before you go.

In an emergency:
• Open What3Words
• Find your current 3-word location
• Provide it to 911/dispatch
• Share any additional information you can, such as the trail you’re on or a nearby landmark.

Knowing your exact location can help emergency responders get to you faster and more efficiently.

Way to go Mendota!

This morning history was made at the Mendota Fire Department, as the first time, an entire full-time shift will be staffed by women, Jennifer Stampfler and Jennifer Coppes.
This is more than just a first, it is a reminder of how far the fire service has come and how much stronger it becomes when opportunities are open to everyone with dedication, skill and commitment to serve the community.
