🔥 Labor Day Grilling Safety 🇺🇸

Firing up the grill this weekend? Keep it safe:

✅ Keep grills away from your home and anything that can burn.
✅ Never leave a grill unattended.
✅ Keep kids and pets at least 3 feet away.
✅ Never grill inside a garage or enclosed space.
✅ Propane grill? Check hoses and connections for leaks before lighting.
✅ If you smell gas, turn off the tank and do not light the grill.

Help First Responders Find You!

Did you know there’s a simple app that can help first responders locate you faster in an emergency?

📱 What3Words divides the entire world into 3-meter squares and gives each location its own unique combination of three words. This can be especially helpful at Starved Rock State Park, where trails, canyons, overlooks, and wooded areas can make it difficult to describe exactly where you are.

If you’re hiking, exploring, or enjoying our state park, consider downloading the What3Words app before you go.

In an emergency:
• Open What3Words
• Find your current 3-word location
• Provide it to 911/dispatch
• Share any additional information you can, such as the trail you’re on or a nearby landmark.

Knowing your exact location can help emergency responders get to you faster and more efficiently.

👉Download What3Words and be prepared before heading out!

Know your location. Know your surroundings. Stay safe.

Way to go Mendota!

This morning history was made at the Mendota Fire Department, as the first time, an entire full-time shift will be staffed by women, Jennifer Stampfler and Jennifer Coppes.
This is more than just a first, it is a reminder of how far the fire service has come and how much stronger it becomes when opportunities are open to everyone with dedication, skill and commitment to serve the community.
Congratulations to these amazing firefighters on this historic milestone!
