Title: From One Shepherd to Another ✝️
Sermon Recap: Psalm 23 – The Lord is My Shepherd
A powerful, heartfelt message reminding us that no matter what we face, we are not alone — we have the Good Shepherd who provides, protects, restores, and leads us.
Key Scripture (Full Text – Psalm 23 KJV):
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Main Points:
• “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.”
We are not supposed to live in constant lack. If the Lord is our Shepherd, He provides. Being perpetually in need can be an indictment against our Shepherd — trust Him for daily provision.
• He Maketh Me to Lie Down in Green Pastures & Leadeth Me Beside Still Waters
God leads us to provision and peace. Sheep won’t drink from troubled water — God wants us in calm places. Peace is one of the greatest luxuries. You can have little and still feel wealthy with peace, or have much and be miserable without it.
• He Leadeth Me
Let God do the leading. Like Abraham and Lot — the well-watered plains aren’t always God’s will. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” After praying, say: “Lord, this is what I want… but You choose.”
• He Restoreth My Soul
The Hebrew word means “made like new” — like it never happened. No matter how life bruises, crushes, or disappoints you, the Good Shepherd can restore your soul completely.
Sheep Illustration: A “cast down” sheep that falls on its back can’t get up and will die if left alone. The shepherd must lift it back to its feet. When you’re worn out, discouraged, and can’t help yourself — your Shepherd restores you.
• Yea, Though I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I Will Fear No Evil
Fear no evil — not rising prices, uncertainty, or shadows. Why? “For thou art with me.”
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
The rod (used by Moses to part the Red Sea) and Aaron’s rod that budded show God’s power and authority. That same rod brings comfort, life, and victory.
• Surely Goodness and Mercy Shall Follow Me All the Days of My Life
The Shepherd leads from the front, but Goodness and Mercy follow behind — especially when we lag, stumble, get weary, or fall behind. God never forsakes His sheep. We are covered from every direction.
• Conclusion:
“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
The goal is to be gathered with the Shepherd in His house for eternity. He gave His life for the sheep.
Closing Prayer Emphasis:
No matter what’s in front or behind you — frontal attacks or rear-guard struggles — you are safe. The Good Shepherd walks before you, and Goodness + Mercy follow you.
