🚨 A QUICK REQUEST FROM YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT 🚒

Fire departments and dispatch centers across the country—and right here in our community—have seen a major spike in false 911 calls triggered by smartphone "Crash Detection" features. While these features are incredible tools designed to save lives in serious accidents, the sensors can easily get tripped up by a bumpy trail ride, a dropped phone, or a sudden stop.

Here is why this matters to us and to you: Every second counts. When a phone automatically dials 911 and the line goes silent, our dispatchers have to treat it as a worst-case scenario. That means crews are often dispatched, lights and sirens, to track down a silent signal. When our engines and ambulances are tied up searching for a false alarm, it delays our response to actual, life-or-death emergencies in the community.

How you can help us:

If your phone accidentally triggers a crash alert and dials 911, PLEASE DO NOT HANG UP.
If you see it dialing, just stay on the line. When the dispatcher answers, simply let them know it was an accidental alarm and that you are safe. We promise you aren't in trouble! Hanging up forces us to spend critical time trying to call you back and track your location. Staying on the line to give us the "all clear" takes just a few seconds and keeps our rigs ready for the next real emergency.

Stay safe out there, and thank you for helping us keep our community protected! 🧑‍🚒🌲

Our flag has been placed at half-staff from today, until Sunday, May 24th. This has been done to honor fallen Firefighter/EMT Justin Hurd. Justin was a Volunteer Firefighter for the Mellott and Coal Creek Fire Departments, as well as an EMT for Fountain County EMS. We would like to encourage other area departments, businesses and agencies to do the same to honor one of our community servants. Rest easy our Brother, we will all take the watch from here.
