St. Benedict authored a “rule of life” as a guideline he chose to regulate our lives in order to experience spiritual growth. He intended the rule to be used by ordinary laypeople, not clerics. Part of the rule included observing the divine hours — paying attention to God’s presence in everyday life. Leighton Ford’s “The Attentive Life: Discerning God’s Presence In All Things” helps teach a very distracted people in a very distracting world to take time to pay attention to God, to think deeply, to discover what God is doing all around us. Bring rich faith tradition into your current time and culture.

Seasons end. There comes a time when we must stop an old something in order to reach the new something. Jacob worked for his father-in-law Laban for 14 years to secure the hand of Laban's daughters Leah and Rachel. He worked another 6 years for wages. The Lord told Jacob it was time to return the land and the family that was promised through him (Gen 31:3). The in-law work relationship had reached a necessary end. Dr. Henry Cloud's Necessary Endings promotes the awareness of needing to make the bold decision of ending something well when it has come time. Jobs, projects, even some relationships reach a course when it must end in order for us to remain growing and healthy in life and personhood. Move from being stuck in denial to having clarity of action. Give it up to move forward.

Pentecost Sunday plus one day… these historic lyrics of Charles Wesley’s hymn still hit me. His words become my prayer. My Great Redeemer’s Praise published by Seedbed.

The four guys in my neighborhood who responded to a “Come and See” phase of disciple making recently shaped into two guys entering a much longer season of “Let’s Follow Him Together” phase. We are using Greg Ogden’s Discipleship Essentials. The study is a 25 sectioned courseware focused on central concepts and life changes in the Christian walk. It is done in a relationship -based format. Life-on-life. The hope is to pay it forward 4 generations.

Some neighborhood guys and I have entered a continued season of disciple making using this time tested resource for a life changing journey in God’s Holy Spirit with trusted others. Incredible to think about being gathered together on Easter evening. May the Risen Christ be with us!
