Dora Nelson African American Art & History Museum A GIFT TO OUR COMMUNITY
From the time its door opened in 1997 the Museum has been sustained by its founders Charles and Alberta Kearney.

Celebrating the art, history, culture and contributions of African Americans in the Inland Empire, and dedicated to preserving the history of integrity and faith that is the foundation of our character. Charles is no longer with us, but Alberta is 93 years old and still counting! The Museum has been a labor of love and has continued to exist at a great personal sacrifice to Alberta and her family.

We are blessed to have the gift of the DNAAAHM in our community and in this region. At the time it was conceived in 1979 there was not one museum dedicated to the subject of African Americans in the Inland Empire. The DNAAAHM that exists today in Perris could not have been sustained without the generous assistance of others -good people of all backgrounds and ethnicities -who supported the Kearney's vision to preserve the legacy of those local, unheralded heroes who helped pave the way for us today.

The Dora Nelson African-American Art & History Museum is so proud of the new Community Garden, honoring the "roots" and long history of African American ties to the land and agricultural traditions that sustained millions of their ancestors.

On Wednesday, January 30th, the Dora Nelson African-American Art and History Museum, in collaboration with the City of Perris, celebrated the grand opening of their new community garden.

This community garden is the 14th opened in the City of Perris as part of the Healthy Eating, Active Living initiative.

A smartphone app from StoryCorps can bridge generations by turning anyone into a documentarian, and save oral histories of family and friends in the Library of Congress.
