We are honored to celebrate the Perkins-Tryon Hope Squad, in partnership with the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, for receiving the Youth Leadership Award in recognition of their advocacy, leadership, and positive role modeling for youth in health and wellness.
Five years ago, this journey began after attending a conference presentation about the Anadarko Hope Squad program. That presentation inspired a vision within our Behavioral Health program to bring peer-led support and youth advocacy opportunities to our communities. This vision was first written into our Native Connections grant and later sustained through continued support from our 988 Tribal Response grant. Through a strong partnership with Perkins-Tryon Schools, that vision became reality — and now, five years later, this work is being recognized at the same conference that first inspired it.
The Perkins-Tryon Hope Squad has made a meaningful impact by promoting mental wellness, encouraging peer support, and helping create safe and supportive environments for youth. This partnership has strengthened conversations around youth leadership, su***de prevention, and wellness within the community while also contributing to discussions and collaborations at the state and national levels.
We also want to recognize the dedicated Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma Hope Squad Advisors and grant staff whose continued commitment, advocacy, and support have helped grow and sustain this program over the years. Their commitment to youth wellness and leadership development has helped create lasting opportunities for students and communities alike. The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma Hope Squad Advisors are Lisa Fox, Rob Finnell, Kelsey Patzkowsky, Justin Kimmel and additional 988 grant staff are Amber Durbin, Tommy Waite, and Hailee Schmitz.
A special thank you to the outstanding school advisors, Sarah Jackson and Coach Dylan Parker, whose leadership, dedication, and encouragement have helped guide students and strengthen the success of the program.
Congratulations to the Perkins-Tryon Hope Squad students, advisors, grant staff, and partners on this well-deserved recognition and for continuing to make a positive impact in the lives of youth and communities.
