Our Story and Mission

Set in the heart of Ideal Corners, MN, Idyllwood Common Interest Community is an intentional low density residential neighborhood with a focus on piloting a model conducive to observing and documenting the flora and fauna of the forest while creating a unique up-north woodlands lifestyle by keeping the bulk of the woods wild, untamed, and preserved such that people are encouraged to commingle and complement nature within a nearly 16 acre park system. Only ten home-sites were carefully selected and placed within the park giving generous buffers between each site. The trails connect the common park system and home-sites to create an interconnected hybrid community where people and wildlife can thrive. This is accomplished by sensitive planning by the developer regarding the density and placement of the home-sites leaving plenty of forest as a buffer zone and common interest for everyone's enjoyment including wildlife migration, routes to lakes, and grazing. Only the trails are groomed leaving the rest as a natural forest floor for woodland inhabitants to continue to flourish undisturbed as much a possible while allowing people ample access to the entire park system. We hold guided walking tours for the public with a focus on encouraging people to access the outdoors, and develop their knowledge of forest management, plant, and animal species, and giving a space for curiosity and excitement for nature. The public trail head and parking is located at Idyllwood Center. For pedestrians coming from the local neighborhoods there is a trail head between Idyllwood Blvd and Idyllwood Center just off 39. We will soon have trail maps available located at the main trail heads. We are continually managing the groomed trails, observation seating, natural amphitheater, bonfire areas, open green spaces, forest gardening & picnic areas. It is a passion we share as a community and are continually meeting to plan and implement the next phase to enhance the total experience while in Idyllwood. We are currently working to connect to other Crow Wing County agencies, along with local, and state non-profits that encourage land management and conservation. We hope someday to hold educational classes for our owners and the public in the areas of nature, wildlife, conservation, regional history, and indigenous peoples, including arts and culture. We do not charge a fee or receive donations to allow access to the public for "recreational purposes". Among allowed activities in our park system are walking, hiking, picnicking, snowshoeing and cross county skiing at this time. Next fall 2020 we plan to add archery on the 3.5 acres in the lower valley.

Minnesota Statue 604A.20 - 604A.27 provide the land owner or owners with broad liability protections. In other words, Idyllwood Common Interest Community is not liable for the public uses of our park system. All users should use good common sense in any forest environment. We make sure to the best of our ability to clear trails and keep them as safe for use as possible. We ask all users to stay on the maintained trails and open green spaces and to not disturb the natural habitats. If your pets are accompanying you, please clean up behind them. Be aware that there are resident dogs and cats also on their daily walks. We reserve the right to deny access to any person or persons using our park in an irresponsible manner, or found to be damaging the park, it's property, or the home-sites, including disrupting the serenity and enjoyment of the property, and negatively impacting other users of the park. As well, management may ban that individual, or group from further use of our facilities. The park management reserves the right to close any portion, or the entire park system, to public use without advance notice. We are confident by setting high expectations that everyone who comes will take pride in sharing a sense of responsibility to keep this privilege open to the public. Thank you
