To support the library needs of the communities of the Orange School District, exclusively for charitable, educational, and literary purposes, as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Stop by and see our three new whimsical outdoor Percussion Play instruments on the library grounds: intertwined cattails, a spiraling dragonfly, and a rainbow xylophone.

A special thanks to Mercedes Wilson's parents, Gail and Larry Wilson, for their generous donation in her memory.

Working closely with branch staff, the Friends and the Wilson family’s gifts supported purchase and installation of these special instruments. These unique additions invite visitors of all ages to discover, create, and find joy through music and play.

An Orange High School alumna and frequent library visitor, Mercedes was remembered as someone who brought joy wherever she went. As one speaker shared at the recent dedication shared, "Mercedes had an energy that just lit up the room. I love how she taught us to live fearlessly, love people, spread joy, and be kind. She taught us how to dance like no one was watching."

Meet Author Dr. Kelly Anderson at the Orange Branch Library on Monday August 17th at 2pm!

About the author:

Dr. Kelly Anderson is a physician with fellowships in emergency medicine and HIV. She completed the Bookends Novel Fellowship, the Gateless Writing Academy, and is a certified Gateless writing teacher.

She led writing courses for over two thousand women inside her award-winning nonprofit, Understory, designed to bring doctors back to themselves and their instincts. She spent fifteen years working in the Inner-City Family Health Team at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and built the clinical team at Felix Health.

Kelly spent much of her childhood in British Columbia, and now lives in Guelph, Ontario with her husband and sons.

The Wild Beneath is her first novel.

Discover how a global League of Extraordinary Artists is harnessing the power of the arts as a tool for healing and empowering youth impacted by serious illnesses, disabilities, and complex mental health, developmental or medical needs. The storytelling collaboration begins when kids and teens are interviewed about who they are beyond their diagnosis and how they want to make a positive difference in the world. Each child is matched with an illustrator who designs the heroic alter ego they describe – visual representations of their strength, courage and creativity. Hear how illustrators tackle the challenge of taking art direction from a child and
celebrating their differences, and how this new pantheon of young superheroes can change the world.

Today we’re celebrating the incredible team at the Orange Branch Library—the people who keep everything running, welcoming, and inspiring day in and day out.

They are the friendly faces at the desk, the behind-the-scenes problem solvers, and the heart of everything we love about our library.

We encourage you to check out the Power of The Superhero Project on Tues, June 23 / 6:30 and the Representational Justice & A New Pantheon of Heroes program on Thurs, June 25 / 6:30 as well. You can also receive a personal tour of the Superhero Project exhibit from Lisa Kollins at the Orange Branch Library during our designated viewing hours. No registration is necessary to attend exhibit viewing hours.
