TONIGHT, the Peoria Riverfront Museum will host their annual holiday tree lighting.

Murray will help set the tone in the background decked in red and green and will remain lit through Christmas in the Village shopping market this weekend.

May the lights of the season bring you joy this holiday.

Tonight’s the night, folks! We flip the switch on Christmas magic. 🎄

Everyone’s invited to gather at the Peoria Riverfront Museum for a cozy, feel-good night that kicks off the season in the best way. Warm treats, live performances, festive music, Santa… all the good holiday stuff.

The tree* lights up at 6:30 sharp, so bring your people and come soak up the moment.

*The tree is a Norway Spruce and stands 75 feet tall, the largest we’ve ever had and nearly Rockefeller-sized!

Have you caught Murray green this week?

It will be through Veterans Day for Operation Green Light, a national initiative by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers to shine a light on the service of our veterans and their families.

The Murray Baker Bridge is illuminated in green through Veterans Day for Operation Green Light, a national initiative by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers to shine a light on the service of our veterans and their families.

Locally, the Harold A. Fritz Veterans Assistance Commission of Peoria County officers work with veterans and dependents to determine their entitled benefits and file claims with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Our officers guide applicants through the entire process and fight to ensure a fair review of all claims.

Help us Flip the Switch!

To make great progress in the Heart of Illinois by creating a vibrant downtown area. This new visual display will play as the backdrop to our cities and stand out in the night sky, further cementing the Murray Baker Bridge as an iconic structure in our region.

To ensure that the lighting system stays fully operational and the bridge does not go dark once more, a sustainability plan should be put in place. By creating the opportunity for the public to request the lighting of the bridge for special occasions such as festivals, events or local sports teams it will generate a revenue source to offset the cost of operations and maintenance of the lighting system.

It is suggested that a large portion of the funds generated (after expenses) be granted back to the community in the form of beautification grants. Projects for the beautification of our area are generally underfunded and unfunded due to the sheer needs of our communities.

It is suggested that the Community Foundation of Central Illinois manage the funds. They are an entity that serves a 50-mile radius surrounding the City of Peoria. Not only can they manage the funds in support of the project prior to completion, as they did back in 1991, but manage the monies coming in from the Special Lighting Requests. It would be suggested that stakeholder representatives and community members sit on a granting committee to oversee the fund.
