Millions of orphaned and vulnerable children around the world are growing up without the love of a family. But there is clear and compelling research on the damaging effects of traditional, institutional orphan care. Children should not grow up in orphanages…kids do best when they are raised in families. The Hope Effect is changing orphan care by providing innovative family care, which allows every child to flourish and thrive.

What a night in Oklahoma City!

We gathered with supporters at OKC Sweets for an evening of dessert, conversation, and a shared vision: ensuring that orphaned and vulnerable children grow up in the love of a family instead of an institution. It was an honor to share the stories of so many children who have already had their lives changed through that stability and belonging.

A huge thank you to Stefanie at OKC Sweets for opening her doors and providing incredible desserts for the evening. Her generosity made the evening feel like a celebration, and we're grateful for her partnership.

Every dessert shared and every conversation had last night moves us closer to more children growing up in families, not orphanages. Because every child deserves a family.

One year ago today, Gabe was welcomed into a family that could finally care for him the way he deserved.

For the first year of his life, Gabe only knew hardship and neglect. Just after his first birthday, he was placed into an orphanage in Michoacán, Mexico, spending the next year surrounded by the walls of an institution instead of a family's love.

But at age two, everything changed. Gabe was welcomed into the arms of a loving foster family. For the first time, he began to experience safety and belonging. Recently he celebrated his third birthday, the first one ever surrounded by love, support, and family.
