Millions of orphaned and vulnerable children around the world are growing up without the love of a family. But there is clear and compelling research on the damaging effects of traditional, institutional orphan care. Children should not grow up in orphanages…kids do best when they are raised in families. The Hope Effect is changing orphan care by providing innovative family care, which allows every child to flourish and thrive.

Some of the most honest conversations about family care happen in rooms like this one.

Our team in Michoacán recently hosted another family panel, where foster families shared what it’s like to open their homes and hearts to children who need them. Families considering foster care came with questions, and the parents on the panel answered honestly, sharing both the challenges and the joy.

One of our newest foster families was in the room that night. Just a few days later, they welcomed a little girl into their family.

Today is International Day of the Girl, a day to celebrate girls around the world and recognize the unique challenges they face.

Girls growing up in orphanages are especially vulnerable. But because of you, more of them are getting out of institutions and into loving families. Girls like Samantha, Natalia, Ana, Jessica, and so many others are growing up knowing what it means to be loved and protected. Thank you for making that possible.
