The name “b.u.i.l.d.e.r.s.” came from a word of wisdom I received from an elder man, who told me that we need more Black builders – Black people who do not put ourselves in the position to let the world decide our value or tell us what we must to do for them. Rather we must do what We need to do for ourselves and our community. We must never underestimate our influence or power – to either hold ou
r society in its current state, to continue further in a path of destruction, or to bring healing to ourselves and the world around us. Oppression has come about in an organized and driven manner, and in order to lift the burden it has created and the entity it has become, we will need to meet it with a similar determination and organization. Not driven forward by hatred or greed, but by care. We are a new generation that needs to create and build with the same love, care and wisdom as those who came before us. By supporting Black voices and creators and businesses; by remembering the words and lives of past heroes (in order that we may help to educate the heroes of tomorrow); and encouraging each other to keep a watchful eye out for our neighbors, here and around the world. This is not a new movement, we are not the new solution, this is not the “new black” – this is simply a continuation of a centuries-long battle for Life and respect. Take care and stay woke.
