Thanksgiving Day
11-27-25

Ok, today you may be asked what you’re thankful for. If you’re reading this and you have no one around you and find yourself all alone with no one to ask you this, you may find it hard to be thankful for anything.

As difficult as this might be, make every effort to look around and find something to be thankful for. This may feel like “cold water” over you, but there are many people today who have it far worse than you.

Lee Strobel tells a story of a time when he was searching for answers in his own life, he met a lady by the name of Perfecta Delgado with 2 young daughters in Chicago during the winter. He was reporting on the homeless population to draw attention to the great need. He writes that this family had lost everything, lived in one room in some cold building. No furniture, no pictures on the wall, only the few pieces of clothing they had lying on the floor. The daughters only had one sweater to wear, so when they walked to school one would wear it halfway and then allow the other sister to wear it the rest of the way. Strobel was amazed at the joy the mother expressed in the midst of such poverty. Despite their poverty mom spoke joyfully about her faith and trust in Jesus. She expressed a thankful heart in the midst of such dire circumstances. Long story short, when Strobel published the story on the Chicago Tribune he added the address of this family in hopes that people would respond in generosity. The response was overwhelming. This family was showered with gifts, food and clothing and money. When Strobel went to see them, their one room flat was covered with gifts.

When he visited this family he found mom and the girls putting gifts, food and money in boxes. He asked “what are you doing”, Perfecta answered “these boxes are for the other families living in this building. What God has given us is meant not just for us, it is meant to be shared”.

This is what a thankful heart will do for you. It keeps hope alive and even more; a thankful heart is always assured that God is good no matter your circumstances.

“Oh give thanks to the LORD for He is good; His love endures forever”. Psalms 107:1

Always thankful!

Wrong Way Feldman was a character in an episode of Gilligan’s Island. I realize I just dated myself but those were the days when wholesome TV was still a value. I hope that I have not lost the younger generation on that one. Wrong Way Feldman was a pilot that would easily lose his direction when flying, thus his name.

Think about this, if you look at the landscape of your life and realize that it’s not the direction you thought you would be in, here’s a question for you. How did you get here?

It may be with your marriage, work place, or your financial situation or with your children. As you look at the landscape of your life and saying “This is not what I thought it would be or where I would be”. What caused this miss direction to take place? Where was the sign missed that said “this way” or “wrong way do not enter”?

I will get to the point. It’s a problem with your heart that’s the Wrong Way Feldman in you. It’s always been a heart problem with the human race because somewhere along life’s journey someone convinced us and we believed it to “go with your heart, listen to your heart, go with your gut feeling”. But as someone wise asked “how’s that working out for you?”

God tells us that heart is wicked and deceitful above all things. This may sound strange to you but I will tell you that it wasn’t like this at first. Something changed. This change took place in your heart and in the heart of everyone born into this world. When sin entered the human race, and yes we can blame Adam and Eve for this, your heart went dark. Sin took its place. And since then your heart has been directing your life decisions. I will give you this, that some decisions we have made are not all that bad and have brought us much joy and happiness. But, this kind of joy and happiness is temporary not long lasting, not eternal.

So, how do we make a course correction? Only God can change your heart and set you back on the right direction. When we surrender our heart to Him, He gives us a new heart, He takes control and begins to direct your life. Now don’t miss-understand, it won’t all be “sunshine and roses” but even when it’s not, you have this confidence that God is now directing your heart and every circumstance in your life, and it will be ok.

So here’s the secret. I will tell you what the Apostle Paul said to a group of people when they were faced with difficult circumstances. “May the LORD direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” 1Thessalonians 3:5

This means that in the good times and bad you can trust that God is now directing your heart and it will not lead off course. God now directs your heart to love people that are difficult to love and to have the strength to hold on! That’s perseverance. Ask God to direct your heart today. Your heart will not lead you in the wrong direction because God is now your PILOT! No more Wrong Way Feldman lives in you.

Always Thankful!

A Thanksgiving devotion.

We can be thankful for many things as we celebrate this holy holiday with our family and friends. But can I challenge you to be thankful to God for being your "Ebenezer".

You may have never heard this word before, or maybe your thoughts go the character in the Christmas Story named Ebenezer. But that is not who or what I'm speaking to you about.

In Samuel chapters 4-7 you will find a place called Ebenezer. God's people had suffered 2 defeats against their enemy the Philistines. They sent for the Ark of God to help them fight their enemy, yet God allowed them to suffer great defeat. The Philistines take the Ark of God and place it in their temple to their god "Dagon". You may want to read what God did to them as a result.

For 7 months the Ark of God was in enemy territory, and God's people must have felt that God had forgotten them or abandoned them. Ever felt that way? Ever asked "where are you God?"

Well this is where it get's interesting. Because of what God had done to the Philistines for taking His Ark, they decided that they had enough of this and sent the Ark of God back to the Israelites. Twenty years later the Philistines attack God's people, read what they did.

When the Israelites heard of it, they were afraid because of the Philistines. They said to Samuel, “Do not stop crying out to the LORD our God for us, that he may rescue us from the hand of the Philistines.” 1Samuel 7:7-8

This time God defeats the enemy but only in a way that He alone gets the glory!

This victory took place in a place called Ebenezer. So the prophet Samuel takes a stone and sets up a monument of remembrance and calls it "the Lord is our help".

You may be faced with defeats in your life. During this Thanksgiving season you're finding it hard to be thankful. Know that God is your help! If you're waiting on God don't give up or despair. Do not stop crying out to God, just like He defeated the enemy for His people He will do the same for you. Find something, maybe a small stone and place it somewhere you can be reminded of your Almighty God your Help!

Always thankful.

I had the privilege of meeting Tony Perkins with Washington Stand and Family Research Council. His word are timely as we pray for God to bring healing to our Nation in light of the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

COMMENTARY
PERKINS: Charlie Kirk and America’s Turning Point

Tony Perkins
September 12, 2025
“When will it end?”

That was the question a legacy media commentator asked after conservative talk show host and thought leader Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. Another lamented, “Is this how we solve our political differences in America?” From the shattered stained glass of Annunciation Catholic School to the crowded fields of Butler County, Pennsylvania, the heartbreaking answer is too often yes.

And yet evil, whether it slinks across a rooftop or slams into twin skyscrapers, is not new. Two thousand years ago, the prophet Hosea watched his own nation, awash in idolatry, turn its back on God and declared a warning from the Lord, “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind …”

The admonition was as timely then as it is now. Lawlessness, violence, and bloodshed have become so frequent in American life that very little shocks our collective conscience. Yet the assassination of 31-year-old Charlie Kirk, as he peacefully engaged in dialogue on a university campus, is a loss that has stunned millions of Americans across the political spectrum.

As with tragedies before, the responses are predictable — calls for gun control, demands for more government programs, and appeals for prayer. I, too, call for prayer. Not because prayer is a slogan to calm emotions, but because genuine prayer positions us to hear God — and when we listen, He reveals the way forward.

This is an incredibly charged moment for our country, but that should not distract from the fact that America is reaping what it has sown. Since the 1960s, a “long march through the institutions” sought to drive God, His word, and His authority from public life. The aim was to relegate faith to the private corners of society, never to influence the classroom, courtroom, or public square. Charlie Kirk and the movement he sparked stood up to the Left’s assault on college campuses, working tirelessly to challenge the godless influence on this generation. Other courageous thought leaders like Rush Limbaugh, Phyllis Schlafly, and Dr. James Dobson also gave voice to truth in a lost world. And while their work stalled the march, it has not stopped it.

So, how do we stop it and return civility to our nation? First, we must recognize that while our struggle is waged in political and cultural arenas, its roots are spiritual. Without confronting the spiritual decay at the heart of our crisis, no policy or program will suffice. Scripture provides clear understanding to the people of God: the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to pull down strongholds.

This requires courage — to stand unapologetically for truth, yet to resist the temptation to mirror the bitterness of our age. We must speak truth with conviction, but also with love that disarms hatred.

In another time of turbulence, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded America that if we truly want to change the environment fueling violence, we must choose a better way. He declared, “Love has within it a redemptive power that eventually transforms individuals … love is the only way.” He lived those words, saying, “I would rather die than hate you.”

If our nation is to heal, we cannot let our righteous indignation at this unspeakable tragedy rule. We must not answer anger with anger or bloodshed with more bloodshed. Justice must be upheld, lawlessness restrained, and truth defended — but the cycle of hatred must be broken. That can only happen when love — rooted in eternal truth — guides our actions.

Only then can America find the healing it desperately needs.
