Who's ready for ConExpo week!? Here is a throwback to the 1948 Road Show, which was the fist one after a pause during WWII. It was held at Chicago's Soldier Field, and broke from tradition in being held during Summer instead of early Spring. The highlight of the Cat exhibit was the new DW20 and DW21 models, although all Cat scrapers, bulldozers and control units were relatively new, having been added to the Cat lineup since Cat started making their own attachments in 1945. Not to be outdone in their hometown, IH arguably had the best photo op of the show, with a 2X scale replica of the TD-24 in their display.

Happy President's Day! Who was the first US President with a Caterpillar connection? - Teddy Roosevelt. Ben C. Holt, Benjamin Holt's nephew, VP in charge of the Holt factory in Washington state, and known as one of the best equipment salesmen on the West coast, did not miss the opportunity when TR visited the area to invite him to see the Caterpillar tractor in action and even offered him a sales job. It is unknown if TR took Ben C up on the offer, but the president did briefly operate a Bucyrus steam shovel during a visit to the Panama Canal construction in 1906.

Honoring our Friend, Bruce Vinkler

It is with such sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear friend, founding member, club president and dedicated collector - Bruce Vinkler on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Bruce was such an integral part of the club's founding and an inspiration to all. His love of the hobby and calm, experienced leadership always brought so much growth to the clubs he was involved with. Bruce enjoyed sharing his knowledge of his beloved antique Cats to members and friends around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife Julie and the Vinkler family.

That's Bruce on the photo, doing what he loved to do. Push dirt with his antique Cat. We will miss you Bruce.

With many US farmers in the field, it's a good time to highlight a lesser-known Cat ag machine, the AG 6. The AG 6 was a custom products version of the D6D SA briefly offered by Cat in the mid-1980's. The AG 6 was an odd blend of tried and true steel-track tractor and styling elements borrowed from its contemporary the first gen Challenger. Cat would also offer a smaller version, the AG 4, before eventually focusing exclusively on the Challenger line for ag applications.
