THANK YOU, PENSACOLA 🤍
Last night was a reminder of what happens when people show up informed, united, and unafraid to speak truth.
Because of the community; residents, elders, organizers, advocates, and neighbors THE ITEM WAS PULLED Which means this isn't over.
That pause matters. It creates space to do this the right way, not the rushed way.
Let me be clear about what this moment represents:
This was not about opposing affordable housing.
It was about opposing a process that lacked transparency, representation, and community trust.
Pensacola has an opportunity right now not to default to old patterns, but to correct course.
That means:
• A real, transparent procurement process
• Local voices and local expertise centered
• A community table with real power
• Clear protections against displacement
• A redevelopment approach that reflects the people who live here, especially in historically Black neighborhoods
This pause allows the city to collaborate with the community instead of moving ahead without it. That is not a loss, that is progress.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, shared information, and stood firm. This is what civic engagement looks like when it works.
The work isn’t over, but we moved the needle together.
Next step: Community strategy meeting Monday at 6:30 PM (virtual).
