Pensacola, FL – The Veterans Memorial Park Foundation of Pensacola invites active-duty military personnel, veterans, families and all community members to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony at the park, scheduled for Sunday, May 29th at 1 PM at Veterans Memorial Park, 200 S. 10th Avenue in Pensacola.
SPEAKER: Captain Robert "Hoot" Gibson, USN, retired, a former naval officer and aviator, test pilot, and aeronautical engineer who also successfully completed five space flights as an astronaut.
A Marine Corps Color Guard will present the colors and the Pensacola Opera Chorus will perform a patriotic medley of songs.
In addition, the Pensacola Children’s Chorus and McGuire’s Pipe Band will also be featured at the ceremony.
A Marine Corps bugler and honor guard will close the ceremony by rendering honors.
Milton, FL: Memorial Day Ceremonies to take place Monday, May 30th at 10:30 AM
Milton’s Director of Veterans Services Kevin J Cook, American Legion Post #114 and the Town of Milton announce that the Ceremonies will begin at the Town Green at 10:30 AM with the raising of the flag and placement of wreaths at the Town’s War Memorial by local Veterans.
Shortly after this short ceremony, elected state and local officials, Milton Police and Fire Department Color Guards, the Auxiliary Fire Department and Milton’s scout troops will proceed to Milton Cemetery accompanied by the Milton High School marching band. The main ceremony at Milton Cemetery will begin at 11:00 AM. Remarks will be given by Milton’s Director of Veterans Services Kevin J Cook, Cemetery Trustees and local officials.
Our featured speaker will be Captain Mary Jo O’Dwyer Majors, Nurse Corps, United States Navy Reserve (Retired). Captain Majors began her career as a Nurse Corps Candidate with a Navy scholarship for her last 2 years of college and commissioned an Ensign in her senior year on December 11, 1968. Active duty began in 1969 at the Naval Hospital Memphis, many other commands and joined the Navy Reserves after released from active duty in 1973. She completed a Master of Science in Nursing degree at Boston University. She was promoted to the rank of Captain on June 1st, 1991. She retired in March 2011 with over 43 years of service.
A roll call of all recently deceased veterans will be read as a tribute to the service of these men and women. All residents, friends and family are cordially invited to attend the Memorial Day Observance. If it rains on Memorial Day, the ceremony will be held at the Council on Aging Building, 10 Walnut Street Milton MA. Seven years ago, the Pensacola Civic Band partnered with the City of Pensacola to create a free concert event honoring the bravery and sacrifice of American veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Services. Pensacola’s annual Memorial Day concert has been a season highlight for band members and the Pensacola community. For the last two years the concert has not been held due to the global pandemic. This year the Annual Pensacola Memorial Day concert is back and is packed with great music and special guest conductor, Pensacola resident and Pearl Harbor Survivor, Frank Emond (from News 3, Pensacola)
