MozCause

MozCause is the only 501(c)(3) public charity addressing the needs of the rural population near Banhine National Park, Mozambique. www.mozcause.org

Foremost, MozCause is rebuilding the local school, Escola Primaria de Mafacitela, in order to provide the students with a place to learn and study. The construction will include a new separate building to house the teachers who currently sleep in the office. MozCause will assist in the creation of a curriculum that emphasizes sustainable practices and natural resource management and protect the fu

tures of the children as well as the local ecosystem. This area is at the center of an expanding transfrontier conservation area, and with that distinction comes human-wildlife conflict. We aim to address this issue, but strictly from an education standpoint. It's not uncommon for elephants to amble past the school grounds! Secondly, we will be providing the communities with sanitation systems and clean water through well building, rainwater showers and compost toilets. Currently, there is no source of fresh water for children and other members of the villages, except for a government built well that provides salt water during the dry season. There is also little or no education available on water-borne illnesses. Finally, we have successfully planted trees on the school grounds that provide edible leaves, with more being grown in the mean time.

We have already replaced a missing roof, provided new desks and chairs, and are currently in the process of installing new windows.
