Gone Fishing...🐠🎣

Did you know that fishing reduced anxiety by combining physical and psychological mechanisms including:

- Mindfulness ☺️
-Brain chemical regulation 🧠
-Nature therapy 🌿

Thanks to Steve's Farm and Market for hosting our youth, allowing them not only the experience of fishing but a chance to put these informal stress relieving strategies to the test.

Thank you to Escambia Children's Trust for making this trip possible 😁

Today we honor the journey toward justice and freedom for African Americans and Black communities in the U.S. First celebrated in Texas on June 19, 1866, Juneteenth marks the day enslaved people learned of their freedom, becoming a national holiday in 2021. Celebrating Juneteenth honors the resilience of the black community and acknowledging and learning about history is good for mental health.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Family Night a fun & safe place to discuss the importance of Mental Health.

Since May is Mental Health Awareness, our guest speaker, Ms. Renita Spann from Restoration Calls, LLC led our families in discussion on 'What is Mental Health' as well as engaged our families with easy coping strategies they can use when needed --and share with others 😁.

But most of all, thank you to Escambia Children's Trust for providing funding to make this all possible.

Barbershops have always been MORE than just a place for haircuts πŸ’ˆβ€” they are social hubs, cultural landmarks, and informal mentorship spaces that shape lives and strengthen communities🏘️.

Barbershops provide a SAFE, judgment-free environment where people from all walks of life can connect over shared experiences.

Fostering camaraderie, trust, & a sense of belongingπŸ«‚.

Barbers serve as unofficial mentors, especially for our young people. Through their work and interactions, they model values such as hard work, dedication, and respect.πŸ’š

Send us a message to learn more about our Barbershop Mentors or if you know of a young person who could benefit from these services.

Did you know that many of us already receive informal mental health support from family, friends, community members, or cultural leaders? πŸ«‚

Informal support can be highly personalized and emotionally connecting, fostering a sense of belonging & understanding while assisting with connections to formal services as needed.
