Happy Sunday, all. Our Sanitation crews will be on their regular route schedule starting tomorrow, BUT, while we will pick up recycling cans, the contents won’t be recycled for this week. Everything we collect this week will be treated as garbage. Make sure your can is clear of your debris pile.

🚧The intersection of B Street and Intendencia Street is closed to traffic for the installation of a 54-inch storm pipe.

Nearby residents will still be able to access their homes, but all traffic through the intersection will be detoured.

Work in this intersection is expected to be complete by Oct. 19, weather permitting.

The intersection closure is part of the Main Street Flooding and Adaptation Project, which began in early 2025 to reduce flooding, upgrade stormwater systems, and enhance pedestrian safety in the area. The project includes:

⛈Improved stormwater drainage through the installation of larger pipes and additional inlets
⛈A stormwater treatment tree well to help manage and filter stormwater runoff
⛈Sewer upgrades with portions of the sewer main replaced to improve reliability
➡Sidewalk and curb improvements to enhance pedestrian safety
➡Street repaving over the construction area
➡Additional sewer improvements

The Main Street Flooding and Adaptation Project is expected to wrap up before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Dolly Parton‘s mission with the imagination library was to create a love of books and reading, and to give every child the start they needed in education and life. Dolly's mission matches our Friends of West Florida Public Library’s mission to advocate for literacy and learning by funding and support for our libraries where people of all ages, backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles can grow intellectually and contribute to our community and society.

So to honor Dolly Parton, our Friends group will give away a free children’s book to every child that comes to our Fall Book Sale on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Downtown Pensacola Library.

FYI - changes to the garbage pick up schedule next week

As a reminder, City of Pensacola offices, facilities and community resource centers will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7.

Monday garbage, yard waste, bulk and recycling will be collected Tuesday, Sept. 8, while Tuesday garbage, yard waste, bulk and recycling will be collected on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Thursday and Friday customers will see no change. The changes only apply to City of Pensacola Sanitation Services customers.

Osceola Golf Course and Roger Scott Tennis Center will remain open during the holiday.

In a partnership with Change.org, the City of Pensacola is piloting a new initiative called Civic Dialogues which is intended to identify creative, community-driven solutions to local challenges.

From Sept. 3 until Oct. 12, all Pensacola residents will have an opportunity to share their ideas for change in Pensacola and respond to their neighbor’s suggestions by going to civicdialogues.org/Pensacola.

The site is live now.

After the closing date, Change.org will identify the submitted topics that resonate most with all participants and then bring in a group of residents from across the city for a virtual discussion during mid-November to develop these topics into actionable proposals.

City of Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves has committed to reviewing the proposals that emerge from this process to see how the City might be able to support them.

The Civic Dialogue program fits alongside the Strive to Thrive Pensacola 2035 Strategic Plan and the annual Resident Satisfaction Survey, as tools in the City’s ongoing efforts to use citizen input to guide key decisions and priorities.

Change.org has also worked alongside other cities across the country such as Tulsa, Okla., Albuquerque, N.M., and Jackson, Tenn. among others.
