Another great time at our weekly Pensacola SubWest Rotary Club meeting, which we held for the first time at the . ( )

James Marks, our President, managed the meeting, mentioning birthdays, weddings, and club anniversaries. The food was delicious (fried chicken!).

October 18th is the Global Learning Academy Fall Festival. The theme is Reading is Magical! We are requesting as many of our members and their helpers, to work at this event. SubWest Rotary will provide and prepare the food for the school.

Mr. , Executive Director of .(AMI Kids Pensacola), presented on how young people who failed to complete high school can study and obtain their GED, and then prepare for military service, take a trade course, get a cerification, attend college, and so many other things that prepare them for a better future. The AMI Kids Pensacola is a nonprofit organization that receives financial support from donors and occasional grants. Thank you Mr. Monti Sommer, we appreciate the update on your program.

We invite visitors and other Rotarians to visit our club meetings that usually meet at the Pensacola Yacht Club. Thursday, 12 pm til 1:15 pm. (Note: If you come at 11:30 you can enjoy lunch.)

I volunteered at the (GCVAC) today at the . Thank you to GCVAC CEO Mr. (Ret. Vet), who lets me volunteer every year at this essential gathering of local agencies that provide veterans with clothing, food, toiletries, and access to assistance programs. The rain didn’t deter the veterans; they asked questions, and many left with answers. 👏🏾💙❤️

The Pensacola SubWest Rotary held another great meeting at the Pensacola Yacht Club. President James Marks guided members through the required parts of our meeting. Our member, Denise Russell, received recognition as a new plus four. We applauded her achievement. Member Doug Marks delivered a groaner that the room laughed at. had members groaning from his "Woolly Bo**er" questions. Wrong and right answers brought money into the club.
The presenter was our member Winifred Ereyi, who is also a member of Rotary International's group, (MBBI). The group trains Rotary members in mediation to promote peace. She spoke of understanding "positive" and "negative" peace. Positive peace is "the attitudes, institutions, and structures that create and sustain peaceful societies. Negative peace is the absence of violence, or the fear of violence." Winifred, you made us aware of what the international MBBI does to spread peace in the world. Thank you for your service above self.

We had a great Pensacola SubWest Rotary Club meeting on Thursday at the Pensacola Yacht Club (PYC). President James Marks acknowledged 's and Stacey Rising's birthdays. Members and guests then applauded our new member, , as he received his Rotary pen and packet. Welcome, Chris!

The speaker, Ms. Katrice Johnson, President/CEO of the , shared outstanding information about her company, which works with children and their families to build generational wealth. The program uses games, books, and solid, old-fashioned teaching to build a fearless approach to entrepreneurship, financial awareness, and responsible learning that supports future success.

Our club members enjoyed this presentation, and we thank Ms. Katrice Johnson for her dedication to creating an educational approach that provides outstanding outcomes for those in the program.

We invite other Rotarians and potential new members to visit our meetings on Thursday at the PYC; meetings begin at 12:15 p.m. If you come at 11:30, you can join us for lunch. 💙💛

We had a wonderful Rotary meeting last week, and President James Marks welcomed members and their guests while completing other standard meeting requirements. Past President Audrey Preston (2025-26) has made our official meeting time of 12:15 p.m. accessible to members who can't attend by joining online. Members can attend meetings and receive credit. Mr. , president of the Northwest Florida Market at , presented to the Pensacola SubWest Rotary Club that the tax, or " ," is on the ballot this November. Mr. Vredenburg explained that the current tax remains in place until the end of 2028, and the sales tax benefits many areas in the city and county. "The penny tax supports fire stations, emergency equipment, law enforcement, and the quality of life." Storm control, libraries, water, and other areas also benefit from this tax. Visitors to this area pay up to 28% sales tax on their hotel stays and purchases while here. This wonderful guy, , is the coolest walking marketing representative for . He was the Pensacola SubWest Rotary Club's guest speaker last week, and he engaged the members and guests. Scott's cowboy hat with the Sonny's logo, along with his red shoes, has become a recognized presence in the community. Sonny's participates in our annual . Scott, leading his team of workers from Sonny's, won 2nd place in the 2026 Judges' Award and 2nd place in the People's Choice Award.

He's been at Sonny's for two and a half years, doing marketing for six restaurants in the Gulf Coast area. He is the "Chief Kindness Officer." Scott mentioned prior career paths (lawn care/pest control and at the butcher shop), and this job has been the most rewarding. Thank you, Elden Scott!

Last Thursday, the Club held its weekly meeting at the . As usual, the food was delicious, the conversations at the tables were engaging, and even though there weren't any birthdays to recognize, we applauded a milestone of 30-plus 1 years for our member, , whom we call Bobbye. Bobbye was the first female President of the Pensacola SubWest Rotary Club. Bobbye, along with Happy Birthday, we wish you happiness, peace, and love!

Our speaker was (Ret - LTC), President of , a nonprofit organization that designed a three-tier system providing classes, clothing, places to stay, help finding jobs, and paths to getting off drugs and alcohol for those in need, and others who lose their way. Mr. Davis is a passionate presenter who has bachelor's and master's degrees in religious studies. His program is grounded in a religious platform. Thank you, Mr. Davis, for presenting to our club.

Rotarians and friends were at work today for SubWest's monthly dinner prep at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida. The menu? Oven roasted drumsticks, a dinner pasta salad, baked beans, and a beautiful cut fruit tray.

At last week's SubWest Rotary meeting, President Elect, Jim Marks, installed Scott Schroeder asva new member of SubWest. Welcome Scott!

Our speaker was Mark Faulkner, who provided some updates on Baptist Health Care. They donated the former 51-acre "E" Street campus, to the City of Pensacola. In addition, they gave the City six million dollars, which the City, along with the State, used to abate and remove asbestos. The demolition of that campus has begun, and the projected future is 200 housing units. The units will be for an affordable workforce and senior housing. Overall, the new BHC campus (33 months since move-in) on Brent Lane at I-110 is doing extremely well.

Join us this Thursday for lunch, Rotary fellowship and to hear an update on the Bettaway Learning Center from Stacey Rising's recent trip to South Africa.
