It is with profound sadness that Texas Ballet Theater announces that our revered Artistic Director Laureate, Ben Stevenson, OBE, passed away on March 29, 2026.

A true luminary in the world of ballet, Ben Stevenson's extraordinary vision and unwavering dedication transformed TBT, fostering immense growth in our company, repertoire, and cherished education programs since 2003. His legacy as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer spans the globe, from his early days with the Royal Ballet in England to his pivotal leadership at Houston Ballet and, of course, here in North Texas.

Ben's keen eye for talent nurtured countless dancers, and his commitment to building companies from the ground up shaped generations of artists. Beyond his monumental achievements, we will forever remember his world-class wit, his affable sense of humor, and the boundless generosity of spirit that made him a beloved mentor and friend to so many.

His passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his immense contributions and indelible spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of Texas Ballet Theater and the global dance community.

We will share details regarding memorial services and opportunities to celebrate Ben's extraordinary life and profound impact in the coming days.

Philadelphia Ballet mourns the passing of Ben Stevenson, OBE.

In the words of Artistic Director Angel Corella, there are those rare individuals who enter our lives and make them richer, brighter, and more meaningful—Ben Stevenson was one of them.

A humble visionary and a true genius, he shaped generations of artists with his passion, artistry, and unwavering dedication. His spirit will continue to inspire all who step into the studio and onto the stage.

We had the honor of hosting a Zoom conversation with Stevenson in 2022, where he shared “The dancers that inspire you, you want to work with them. It’s important to inspire one another.”

His legacy lives on in every step we take.
