Social Accessions

Social Accessions Museums began with private collections. The impulse to collect objects is in our nature. Personal collections do not exist within a vacuum.

We surround ourselves with objects that embody a multiplicity of meanings, among them personal histories. We obtain these collections through motivations guided by our own personal obsessions. Social Accessions hopes to consider the accessioning of these collected items within the context of traditional forms of visual display as well as emerging forms created within online culture. Through the on

line gallery we aim to accession these objects into a larger collection that extends beyond the display and into a greater social entity. We invite our viewers to share the simultaneity of this phenomenon through participation in Social Accessions.
