No AI data centers in Escambia county!

Yesterday, we joined community members for a mobilization against potential Escambia County data center plans. All around the United States, these data centers are using up clean water, consuming enormous amounts of energy while community members pay the price in rising electricity rates, and disrupting the lives of everyone around them by generating huge amounts of heat and destructive non-stop sound pollution.

The tech billionaires in this country are racing to build more and more data centers in order to maximize their profits and better exploit working people. Instead of using technology for the good of all people, these greedy billionaires are just looking to automate away our jobs and institute mass surveillance programs. The working people of Escambia County reject this predatory model, and we will continue to mobilize and organize for a data center ban!

Yesterday, the community showed up ready to learn, organize, and fight back against a data center of any kind coming to Escambia County! We had invaluable input from residents across the county including several candidates for political offices and active members from multiple local organizations. 🚨EMERGENCY ORGANIZING MEETING: NO DATA CENTERS IN ESCAMBIA COUNTY!

Join us this Sunday 5/31 at 5 PM for a community organizing meeting to defeat the proposed data center in Escambia county! These data centers have been a huge burden on local communities: over burdening the power grid, wasting the drinking water, destroying the environment, and more -- all while local residents foot the bill. Together, we can build a fighting movement to stop big tech from bringing their destruction to our doorstep. We just have to get organized!

Escambia county is a hotspot for opioid deaths in Florida. Opioid abatement programs have started to make a big difference but now face uncertain futures, and some may close their doors due to a funding crisis. So why did Mayor Reeves spend precious opioid abatement funding on unpopular and dangerous the Flock mass surveillance program? The city needs to cancel the flock contract and allocate the remaining funds where they were intended: for treatment and recovery programs.
