Meet Brad Borders! 👋

Brad is the VP of Community Outreach at Purple Heart Homes! 💜

Brad joined the Army at 37 years old in response to September 11, 2001. He served as a Chaplain in the Army and was deployed to Iraq for one year.

After returning home from deployment, Brad wanted to continue serving his country. He began a combat recovery course in Statesville, NC. While Brad didn't know many local Veterans, he knew of Dale and John. Brad connected with the two co-founders of Purple Heart Homes to learn how he could better serve Veterans through his course. He visited the PHH facilities and ended up staying for hours. A week later, Brad joined the staff at Purple Heart Homes.

Brad has worn many hats at PHH... and he has succeeded in every role! However, he found his niche and passion working in community outreach. "My job is absolutely different every day of the week. I meet different people all the time, and I always get to do some "good" in my job."

Meet Mr. Campbell, a 57-year-old Veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 1981 – 2003 during the Cold War and Gulf War. In April of 2020, a tornado outbreak tore through the southeastern United States, including Mr. Campbell’s hometown in South Carolina. The home that David was raised in was destroyed leaving him homeless. Purple Heart Homes Golden Corner Chapter in partnership with Purple Heart Homes Headquarters, along with the amazing people at The Home Depot Foundation, built Mr. Campbell a tiny home to replace the home he lost in the natural disaster. This is the second tiny home built by this partnership and we are so thankful we could assist Mr. Campbell when he needed it most. Thank you for your service, David, and welcome to the Purple Heart Homes family!

Meet Ms. Lyons! She is a 33-year-old Navy Veteran who served from 2007 to 2011 during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. She was trained in multiple specialties, including Surface Sonar Technician, Master-at-Arms, and Culinary Specialist. Unfortunately, during her deployment to the Persian Gulf, she experienced many mentally strenuous hardships. Those hardships brought on medical issues with migraines, vertigo, and other mental health struggles. Purple Heart Homes, through the generosity of The Home Depot Foundation, was honored to provide Ms. Lyons and her son with a new HVAC system and mold remediation so they can live in a safe, healthy home. Welcome to the Purple Heart Homes Family and thank you for your service, Kristine!

Meet Ms. Williams, a 47-year-old Veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 1992 – 1996 and in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1996 – 2000. She currently struggles daily with injuries that have left her 100% disabled. Ms. Williams’ home was in desperate need of plumbing and electrical repairs. Purple Heart Homes Metro Atlanta Chapter, along with the amazing people at The Home Depot Foundation, assisted Ms. Williams with these repairs to give her a safe home for years to come.
