Did you know? You can recycle monofilament line through Florida FWC's Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program. Recycling fishing line keeps it out of the environment, preventing entanglement, ingestion, or death for hundreds of shore-dwelling birds. Find a bin near you at www.mrrp.myfwc.com! Don't let your fishing line become a hazard for marine life.

So far this year, FWC has confirmed 54 manatee deaths by boat strikes. That's an average of nine manatees a month, and we're barely into June. Here's how you can help:
๐ŸŒŠ Be aware of manatees in Pensacola. They're here, so watch for them when boating and tell others to keep an eye out for them, too.
๐ŸŒŠ Report manatees: dead or injured manatees should be reported to FWC at 1-888-404-FWCC, but you can report live manatee sightings at panhandlemanatee.org.
๐ŸŒŠ Wear polarized sunglasses, which make it easier to see marine life under the surface.
๐ŸŒŠ Obey slow speed zones. Fewer manatee strikes mean fewer speed restrictions.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to Ommm for the Ocean last weekend! We loved sharing a yoga practice with you and were blown away by how many people showed up to support PPBEP. This event raised almost $500 for the Panhandle Manatee Program! Thank you for supporting PPBEP's conservation community outreach efforts.

Do you know how to spot a manatee when boating? It's as easy as 1-2-3:
๐ŸŒŠ Circular ripples on the surface left by a manatee tail
๐ŸŒŠ Snouts coming up for air every 3-5 minutes
๐ŸŒŠ A dark shape in the water that is 9-10 feet long
If you see a manatee, don't forget to report it at panhandlemanatee.org! However, if a manatee is surfacing every 30 seconds or less, it is likely in distress and should be reported to FWC immediatey. You can reach the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 1-888-404-FWCC.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Critter Catchers on Friday! We had four wonderful volunteers come for training and found plenty of pinfish, blenny, and even a seahorse. We also caught a baby barracuda---a PPBEP first!

๐Ÿ  Interested in becoming a Critter Catcher volunteer? Sign up for our newsletter and follow our socials to find out about future trainings! We would love to see you at our volunteer events this summer.
