💜 If you’re thinking about leaving a domestic violence situation, choose YOU. Your life, your peace, & your future are WORTH PROTECTING ‼️Love should NEVER cost you your peace, your safety, or your life. Choosing yourself isn’t selfish—it’s survival. You deserve a life free from fear, control, & abuse.

5-Step Exit Plan:

1️⃣ Make a safety plan. Think through where you’ll go & how you’ll leave when it’s safest.

2️⃣ Gather your important documents. ID, birth certificates, Social Security cards, medications, bank information, & important phone numbers.

3️⃣ Save what you can. Even a little cash, an extra set of keys, & a bag of essentials hidden in a safe place can make a difference.

4️⃣ Tell someone you trust. A friend, family member, coworker, or advocate can help you stay safe & support your plan.

5️⃣ Leave when it’s safest—not when you’re emotional. Your goal isn’t to “win” the argument. Your goal is to make it out safely 💯

💜 8 Signs of Domestic Violence I Wish More People Talked About 💜

As someone who’s survived it… I need people to understand domestic violence isn’t always just a black eye. Sometimes the bruises are emotional, mental, financial, & hidden behind a smile.

Here are some common signs:

1️⃣ Constant put downs, humiliation, or being made to feel “crazy”
2️⃣ Controlling who you talk to, where you go, or what you wear
3️⃣ Going through your phone, social media, or tracking your location obsessively
4️⃣ Explosive anger, intimidation, punching walls, or making you feel afraid
5️⃣ Physical harm like pushing, grabbing, choking, hitting, or blocking exits
6️⃣ Financial control — keeping you broke, dependent, or unable to leave
7️⃣ Isolation from family & friends little by little
8️⃣ Apologizing after abuse, promising change, then repeating the cycle again

A lot of us stayed longer because we didn’t recognize the signs early enough… or because we were trying to survive the best way we knew how.

If this sounds familiar to you or someone you love, please know you are NOT alone. There is life, healing, peace, & freedom on the other side. 💜

🗣️As a domestic violence survivor myself, I know firsthand how much having a safety plan matters. 💜. I created this safety plan thru my nonprofit Transitioning Thru Trauma To Triumph for other dv victims.

When you’re in survival mode, it’s hard to think clearly. Having a plan ahead of time, important documents together, a trusted person to call, a code word, emergency money, or even just knowing where you can safely go — can make all the difference 💎

Start somewhere. Your safety matters. Your peace matters. YOU matter. 🙏🏽

If you’re currently in a situation or know someone who is, please don’t ignore the signs. Preparation can save lives.
