Welcome to Ugbotako
The poor state of development of our hometown brought about the initiative, ‘Ugbotako Diaspora Family’ (UDF). The idea was propounded by Dr. Odimayo Akindutire and Mrs. Kemi Atijosan in April 2020. Mrs. Atijosan subsequently became the first elected President of the Group which is made up of Igbotako sons and daughters in diaspora, coming together to ensure Igbotako as a community and its people begin to enjoy a well-rounded development through creation of new institutions.

The organization consists of Igbotako sons and daughters in diaspora, coming together to ensure the town and its people start enjoying an all-round development through creation of new institutions.

In recent times, and due to negligence of the government and the people, Igbotako’s development has experienced a great stagnation in which even the earliest development projects deteriorated because of absence of a maintenance culture.

This stagnant development of Igbotako is what eventually led to the birth of Ugbotako Diaspora Family (UDF). Today, Igbotako Diaspora has fifty (50) notable members from different countries and we are still growing.

OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE
The traditional head of Ugbotako is the Oba (King), who also is the paramount king of the Osooro kingdom. He goes by the title ‘Rebuja of Osooro.’ The throne of Rebuja is shared on rotational basis between Igbotako and Ilutitun, the two largest and most prominent towns in the kingdom. The Oba is assisted by the chiefs who are grouped in hierarchical order. They are the Eghares, the Ijamas, and Omojas.

The Oba serves as the executive while Eghare and Ijama constitute the legislative body. The Omojas are the traditional police who enforce the King’s and the Chiefs’ orders.

The Second in Command to the King is the Lisa, who functions as traditional Prime Minister. The Ijamas and Eghares also advise the King on the matters of culture and tradition in decision making.

Igbotako’s cultures and traditions are similar to those found in other Yoruba lands, however, there are a few that are unique and distinctive to the town as well as to Ikale people. These include the Iwo Festival, Agan Masquerade Dance, Olugbu Hairstyle for weddings. The music includes Biripo and Asiko genre.

Igbotako is the traditional headquarters of the Osooro people. The economic development architecture of Igbotako commercial activities dated back to the popular weekly market day known across the Ondo State Southern Senatorial District as the ‘Oja Gbotako.’
