NEVADA COUNTY BOCCE LEAGUE

We need your help The Nevada County Bocce League plays at Western Gateway Park on 6 courts we donated and main-tained for everyone.Our bocce courts, built in 2011, are very worn out. Almost anyone can play, and we have players ranging in age from 13 to 88. Free open play for everyone on Sundays from 10 AM until noon, weather per-mitting. Our Tuesday night Nevada County Bocce week 5 of the Spring Session is in the books. Is summer finally here? It sure seemed like it tonight, it was a perfect warm early May evening to play bocce, and it seemed like everyone was really having a good time on the courts.

Week 4 of the Nevada County Bocce Spring Session is in the books. Almost half-way through the spring session and the standings are starting to take shape with those Do**he Bags showing no signs of slowing down and Team Vinny right on there heals. But the real winners last night was the mosquitos they beat all of us pretty bad..... Sorry no pictures this week.

Nevada County Annual Spring Tournament went on even with the wet weather. Bocce players are die-hards; I sent an email out on Thursday with the weather forecast of light all day showers and all 24 teams still made the commitment to play. One team decided to leave the morning just before the start and we were lucky enough to get 4 spectators to form a replacement team, we named them Savior Bocce.... Congratulations to all the winners!!!!!

The teams are set for next Saturday's Nevada County Bocce Spring Tournament, and the round robin positions have been drawn, (the teams will see those positions next Saturday). We had a good response for teams interested in playing this year and it should be a very competitive tournament.

The forecast has been a bit iffy for next Saturday but the last one I saw was no rain, just a little cool in the low 60's. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, it should be a fun day!!!!

Week 2 of our Spring Session in the books.... Another good night on the courts the weather was great and everyone seemed to be in good spirits!!!! Definitely way too early to predict a runaway in the standing!!!

It was a beautiful evening for our 1st night of Spring League Bocce. It was nice to see everyone again and to have a full house of 10 teams competing for the Spring session. I think it will be a fun season, everyone seemed to be in good spirits for the first night. The courts are rolling good, very fast with subtle breaks just the way bocce court should roll!!!!

We had our annual spring bocce tournament this last Saturday. 20 teams of 4 from all over Northern California. The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have a good time. I want to thank everyone who participated and to everyone who made the long drive to play.

The Green Carpet Gazette - Week 5 Results

It's getting down to the nitty gritty as the season comes to a close. All teams kept their previous week's placement as the top teams mirrored each other in victories. Long Island Iced Tea took two over Gin & Tonic...9/6, 9/8 and 2/9. Putting them at 10 total victories. The Salty Dogs only took two over the bottom feeding Mint Juleps. The first match came down to the wire with The Salty Dogs barely taking it 9/8 but the other two matches were very lopsided with the scores being SD's 9/0 and Mint Juleps, winning their very first match of the season, 9/1. The Salty Dogs now sit at nine victories. The Manhattan Maniacs took two over Mojito Mama's & Papa's, 3/9, 9/3 & 9/8 putting them one behind Gin & Tonic.

The final places in the standings after Week 4 leads to two close battles and some guaranteed season ending positions. 1st and 2nd Place, between Long Island Iced Tea and The Salty Dogs are separated by only one game. And...4th and 5th Place, between Gin & Tonic and The Manhattan Maniacs are also separated by only one game. Locking up 3rd Place, it looks like the Mojito Mama's & Papa's can do no better or no worse. Rounding out the list or should I say bottoming out the list is Mint Julep. The only way Mint Julep could gain a position in the standings is if they sweep their final week's match-up against The Manhattan Maniacs. Though Julep would end up tied in total wins with the Maniacs at four each...since the Juleps beat the Maniacs in their match-up they'd be the sole holder of 5th Place. The Mint Juleps will have to keep their fingers crossed and pray for a miracle of biblical portions. 🤞

For the final week...it will be "Wig Night." This is how it works...You must wear a wig for the first three frames of each match, after that you can take the wig off for the remainder of that match. If all members of your team are wearing wigs at the end of the 3rd frame your team receives an additional four points. If only three players are wearing wigs you receive three points. Etc... First team to reach the final score wins. In case of a tie, a Roll-Off will be held. Matches will go to 11 points the final week.

The final matches of the Fall league will be...

Court 4 - Mojito Mama's & Papa's vs Gin & Tonic
Court 5 - The Salty Dogs vs Long Island Iced Tea
Court 6 - The Manhattan Maniacs vs Mint Julep

The Green Carpet Gazette - Week 3 Results

Having last week off due to the excessive heat was a nice, little, unscheduled break in the season but last night most people returned and were ready to get back at it. All the teams were matched up to their closest competitor and depending on how they finished, the standings changed. Long Island Iced Tea still holds its 1st Place position but its undefeated season is no more. All three of their matches against Mojitos on Court 6 were extremely close with two points being the largest gap at the end of any of their games. The final scores were 10/8, 8/7 and 6/8 with Mojitos stealing the last match. They rolled a total of 36 frames, the most of the night, and they also cut their last two matches to 8 points. I think the moon would have come up if they hadn't shortened their matches. :) On Court 4 The Salty Dogs took on The Manhattan Maniacs but The Manhattans weren't up to the task. The Dogs took only 22 total frames to sweep the night...10/6, 10/2 & 10/3. The Dogs three game trouncing was good enough to move them into 2nd Place, one game behind Long Island. The final grouping saw Mint Juleps against Gin & Tonic. Though it wasn't a push over, G&T took all three over MJ...10/5, 10/6 & 10/6. Both teams rolled plenty of single pointers making them Tail End Charlie and the last to leave the courts. One good thing, MJ continues on its streak...it still hasn't won a match. Sigh...

Check out the attached "Standings." You'll find that 2nd Place through 5th Place all changed positions from the previous week. Long Island Iced Tea still holds 1st Place and Mint Julep...well...it continues to wave at the leaders from the depths of the bottom.

A few stats for the brain...There were only two Casinos along with 19 - two pointers and 10 - three pointers. But...it was the night of the single point frame. There were a total of 90 frames rolled and of those 59 were single pointers. Giving the following percentages. 2% were Casinos; 21% were two pointers; 11% were three pointers and 66% were single pointers.

Court 4 - Gin & Tonic vs Long Island Iced Tea
Court 5 - The Salty Dogs vs Mint Juleps
Court 6 - Mojito Mama's & Papa's vs The Manhattan Maniacs
