Tuesday, voters made their decision on the Pendleton Fire and Ambulance levy measure. While the measure did not pass, we respect the outcome and sincerely thank everyone who took the time to learn about the issue, ask questions, and participate in the election.
One thing this campaign made clear is that many people in our community care deeply about their fire and ambulance service. Throughout the past 10 weeks, we received countless words of encouragement, thoughtful questions, constructive feedback, and support from residents. To everyone who took the time to engage with us, thank you. We are grateful for it.
Over the course of the campaign, one of the questions I was asked most often was:
"What happens if the levy doesn't pass?"
My answer was always the same:
"We keep showing up."
We show up for the medical emergencies, the structure fires, the car accidents, the lift assists, the wildland fires, and the moments when someone in our community needs help on what may be the worst day of their life.
The election results do not change that commitment.
As we head into another summer and wildfire season, our firefighters and paramedics will continue doing what they have always done: training, preparing, responding, and serving this community to the best of our ability.
The operational challenges we discussed throughout this campaign did not disappear with the election. Those challenges remain, and we believe they are important enough to continue discussing with our community. In the months ahead, we will continue sharing information, answering questions, and listening to concerns as we prepare to return to voters this November.
The election is over. The work continues.
We'll keep showing up.
