This is Dr. Allen, a neonatlogist at Riley Children’s Hospital. Riley Grief Services is here today because of her passion to take care of the families after the loss of a child. I don’t know what I would have done (or continue to do) if this program didn’t exist. The counseling, group activities and all events are completely free to loss families…and this team go above and beyond to remember all the children that have gone too soon. Everything they provide for us is donor funded. This incredible woman has helped so many families, including mine! Here she is meeting Spirit! We’ve raised over $1,000 for Spirits therapy dog training! If you’d like to donate we would be so appreciative!

We’ve raised around $800 for Spirit so far!! That’s $1700 away from our fist goal! Spirit will be attending her first Grief Retreat this weekend, and even though we won’t be there this year I know she will do great! Spirit got to meet Jasper at Riley Grief Services last week! Jasper has helped out in the past at the Grief Retreat. While we love having Jasper there, he isn’t always available. The goal for Spirit is to be at all Riley Grief events, including therapy sessions. Our first goal for Spirit’s training is $2500, and we’ve already raised $700!!!

Flynn would be a feisty two year old right now, and it amazes me how much support in honoring her we still get years later. The truth is losing a child knows no timeline. I will always do everything I can to honor her 🩷

We had to put our Spirit fundraiser on hold briefly, but we’re staring it up again! We’ve raised around $500 already! Plus we got to meet Spirit last week 🩷 she is the sweetest puppy and will be a wonderful asset to Riley Grief Services! Follow Spirit on IG!

“Therapy dogs provide a nonjudgmental companionship that eases anxiety, softens loneliness, and can gently lift the heaviness that can accompany grief. Research has shown that their presence encourages emotional expression, especially in children who may not yet have the language to express themselves. These dogs become emotional anchors, helping to build trust and connection within counseling sessions and groups. Pet therapy offers something truly special: a gentle, steady presence that brings warmth, comfort, and connection when words often fall short.”

Jasper was at our last Grief Retreat and Olivia loved him, as did all the children there. Losing a baby sister before ever meeting her is not something I saw in our future. I’m forever grateful for Riley Grief Services and their constant effort to help grieving families.

The new goal for Spirit’s therapy school is $2,600!

I’ve been asked alot “what’s Flynn going to do next?”. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity that felt special and aligned with what I want Flynn’s place to be. That beeing said: Meet Spirit, the newest member at Riley Grief Services. Spirit is joining the RGS team as a their very own therapy dog. Since RGS is completely donor funded Spirit will need help covering the cost of her training. The first goal to meet is $2,900. As I start fundraising for Spirit I’ll share what Riley Grief Services has done for our family in our journey with grief and loss. I will also share some pictures of some RGS kids with Jasper, a volunteer therapy dog. Lastly I will share some articles on the benefits of therapy animals and grief. Spirit will proudly wear a Flynn’s Place patch on her service vest once she graduates. We are so excited to be given another opportunity to help RGS and other loss families as well as honor and remember Flynn 🩷

The Milk Bank was such a a huge part of my grief journey and helped me connect with other bereaved moms that I still talk to on a weekly basis 🩷 Today they came to my workplace Hancock Health to celebrate opening a new Milk Express location, so I had to go up and say hello…donating breast milk will always be something I will cherish, it’s something I couldn’t have done without Flynn. It connected us even though she wasn’t in my arms 🩷
