Greetings Alliance Members,
Public Allies is an AmeriCorps program that places young adults in a paid, 10-month apprenticeship with local non- profit organizations (“Partner Organizations”). Operating in the Triangle region of North Carolina for the past 15 years, Public Allies North Carolina is soliciting nonprofit organizations with a community economic development focus to host Allies in North Carolina. We are focusing on the Triangle, Triad, and Southeastern Regions of North Carolina. Please share this information with your network of non-profit organizations.
Public Allies North Carolina provides young leaders an opportunity to make a difference through apprenticeships with a nonprofit organization. Since 1992, Public Allies has been pairing young people with nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies nationwide. For the past 20 years, the goal has been to give Allies a chance to work on an issue they are passionate about while teaching them how to become a leader. The current Operating Partner for Public Allies North Carolina is the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development (the Institute).
Public Allies is a 10 month program incorporating apprenticeship, leadership training, and a team service project. During the 10 month span, Allies work with a non-profit organization on a full-time schedule. One day per month , the Allies come together for leadership training and development. The final component of an Ally, includes working with other Allies on a Team Service Project geared with the goal of building their community.
Partner Organizations will have the opportunity to select an Ally for the 10-month apprenticeship. Partner Organizations will provide $13,148 towards the stipend for one young adult on their payroll. The Institute will reimburse between $3,000-$5,000. In turn, Allies earn $15,000 stipend plus F**A. The Allies are part of the Federal AmeriCorps program which dictates Allies are paid a flat monthly stipend via a payroll check. The stipend amounts is not changed or affected by holidays, overtime, or use of personal, sick and vacation days. They are not subject to unemployment insurance and workers compensation. Public Allies will provide them health benefits, educational award, and child care assistance. The Partner Organization is responsible for the paying the stipend plus F**A. Attached you will find the criteria for a nonprofit organization to participate as a Partner Organization.
A Partner Organizations can host more than one Ally during a program year at their organization. Attached you will find the additional details on Public Allies Partner Organization’s application process. To apply, please visit our website at http://partner.publicallies.org/.
In addition to seeking partner organizations, we are asking organizations to think about a Team Service Project (TSP) that the Ally participants could implement as a group project. The TSP should demonstrate measurable community economic development impact. In the coming weeks you will receive a Request for Proposal for a team service project. The Ally members will select the TSP for their group for the 10-month period.
