The mission of Embrace Music Foundation is to restore, preserve, and fortify the impact of music -- education, appreciation, and performance -- in schools and communities, and to amplify its role in the development of children and families. Through programs such as Rhythms of Africa/Music Around the World, Embrace Music Foundation unites children with musicians, instructors, and local business an
d community leaders to keep the arts alive and vibrant, offering youngsters opportunities to appreciate music in new ways, and to discover alternatives to craft their careers and lives. Rhythms of Africa is a musical journey, one that describes the movement of ancient rhythms sprung from the souls of vibrant cultures and carried by hand and heart from Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas. It is truly the rhythms of the Diaspora, seasoned by time, cultivated and rooted by generations of pilgrims. Guiding this journey is “Reggae Ambassador” Willie Stewart, whose own musical odyssey includes 23 years as percussionist with the internationally renowned Reggae band “Third World” and instruction as teacher and facilitator in London, and now in Broward County, Florida, where his workshops, performances, and remarkable percussion sessions with children unite musicians, families, and entire communities in the celebration of music. We have partnered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Miami and typically select 30 - 35 children to participate in nine 2-hour workshops. During these sessions, not only do children learn about rhythms and practice on a variety of percussion instruments from around the world, they hear presentations from educators, community people, and prominent business leaders like yourself about developing skills and character for success. The program, which culminates with a 75 minute performance at various prestigious venues, has been received with critical acclaim by the greater community.
